Well, I caught several on the 24th in the run just above the 40 Foot Hole (downstream end of Hickory Campground), so there's fish at least that far downstream. Maybe they get scarcer as you go further down. I don't know, but I'd try it if I were going up there anyhow and they had started the 1100fps release.

Yes, I was talking about further down. There are fish in every rapid, including the 40 foot hole. But further down toward the fly shop bridge there's not much. Or there wasn't a week ago at least.

The park finally opens back up within two days. They have been stocking while the park was closed, so the river should be full of trout and the occasional walleye. I'll resume trips starting next week. Unfortunately, I don't guide there after spring break starts. To many people for me. So the last day will be March 7 th. after spring break, I will guide weekdays only on the river. All my weekends are booked on Texoma, till June, chasing Striper. If you want to book a trout trip contact me and we will set it up.

Brand new kid to fly fishing today and he landed over 50 easily. Nothing big to brag about. Biggest was 16-17 inches. Most are 10-14 inches everywhere in the river with occasional 19-21's but kinda rare at the moment. We stayed off the beaten paths, cause there are not many paths anywhere yet. Evening hole is amazing looking. The lower half. Is almost pure sandy gravel. Rock pile still there and is now an island with a small run off going around it that holds fish as well. We hooked fish everywhere we went all day long. Hooked a 18-20 inch walleye in the evening hole for 5 seconds and came loose. Didn't hear any brown trout sighting. Bald eagle was flying from the 40 ft hole and up to the cold hole 40 ft above us. Came by three times looking for trout floaters I'd assume. There are new deep pockets in odd places. Don't take a step unless u can see the bottom. Your old 2-3 ft holes could be 6 ft deep now. Clients dad found that out unfortunately. Good thing I told him to bring two extra pair of cloths, in case u go in, twice. Loose boulders everywhere and slick slick green algae growing on the rocks in places. Saw lotta TFF'ers on the water today. I saw six people fill their waders with water in anywhere from 3 foot 5 foot of water. Saw one guy fall in three times trying to get out from the first dunking ( only his pride was in danger ). Told my kid client not to do what the guy downstream is about to do. He asked me why. I told him to watch him for a min. Three foot Rapids with rushing water, slate granit riddled with algae, is not a good idea Use extreme caution and make sure you bring a change of clothes like I said before. We didn't even really mess around in the spillway Creek today it's not as congested with wood like it was last time. From what I could see from the dam and bridge. There are literally fish everywhere. It was actually somewhat annoying because you will get short strikes left and right. Mainly the 10 to 14 inch fish just hitting it too fast for most people to set the hook. Most of the time they look like your fly it's a rock. I told the clients to set literally every time the indicator does anything that you didn't do to it, especially if you're indicator is moving upstream. Then their catch ratio started skyrocketing. Right now would be one of the best times to take a kid fishin up in Broken Bow. If you would like to take your kid fishing and can't afford a guide, private message me, or contact me otherwise and I'll make sure you have enough information to put the little one on a trout. Even if you just want them to bait fish. Just remember, sets are free.

Another great informative post, Carey. Thanks! I plan to go in about 10 days. I can't wait to check out the new Evening Hole.

Weekends are pack up there. I got tricked into going on a Sunday and it wasn't as packed as Saturday's. So again, I only guide up here on weekdays now. And, no holidays!!!! Caught a couple walleye with most being 14-17 inches. Nick landed himself a monster walleye at 22.5 inches. We have caught walleye throughout the river. But there are a couple spots you can target them specifically. The river has changed everywhere. New paths and trails. And tons of new deep holes to fill your waders up. I have noticed three different species of rainbow in the river. I guess when they were stocking the river while it was closed, they dumped them in diff spots. It's amazing how powerful water is. Above was 30 ft across. Now it's 60-80 ft Above standing on top of rock pile in Evening Hole. Above, I'm standing in the new Lost Creek just downstream of the Bluffs

My friend Cody (txpacker4) and I went to broken bow on Saturday for the day. Fishing was fairly slow and the park was crowded so we tried to stay out of the park.Cody landed 6 large rainbows, 2 sandbass, a 23" brown trout, and a 15" walleye. Fish were short striking and we were trying to catch big fish anyway so it was a successful day. I was able to land a 14" walleye, and 5 rainbows all 16-18". Also lost something massive in a deep, still pocket, only got a glimpse of it and it was a sort of golden flash, the way it was fighting I couldn't tell if it was a large brown trout or a catfish.

Went during the rain storm a couple days ago. Couldn't talk clients out of going. Water was stained and trout were slow. Contruction below evening hole had the river below muddy. So 2 hours into it, I asked the clients if the wanted to catch Sauger and Walleye. They said ok and we went looking. Ended up catching some smaller walleye and four 21-24 inch Sauger. All we females this day. Found a 17 inch Sandbass, some smallmouth 1-2 lbs, one Spotted Bass, and the client told me he caught a fish with the stripe on it. No idea what it was since I didn't see it. I think he caught a sucker fish though. Also we found three crappie 10-13 inches. All caught on Near Deers, clousers, and at the end of the day I threw a secret color crank bait to see what was left and landed three more massive Sauger. Sauger has white stripe down the bottom of the tail and walleye have a spot. I'm sure once they start to spawn the trout and blue gills are going to go crazy. They carry a lot of eggs. 50,000 or so. They are going to start spawning so finding them hanging around trout will be fairly common to catch them. I really don't think they're gonna bite zebra midges or a Blue-Winged Olives. They like to eat crawfish and minnows mainly. So when you're throwing the woolly bugger, chances are you might find one of these tasty fish. I'm finding these things right up against the spillway damn all the way past zone two. Anywhere there are extreme bubble rapids, in the high oxygen, they are usually very close by. Most of the time I catch them mainly in the morning and evening. But it seems they don't really care what time it is. The walleye on the other hand, they seem to bite best a half an hour before dark and into the dark. Had a 15 to 20 pound blue catfish swim by me in the evening hole. I could have kicked it it was so close. It's almost like a fishing in salt water in the park. You hook up with a fish but you really don't know what it is until you can see it. It makes it more fun now, especially for me. We have new terrain and a lot of warmer water species throughout the river system.
