Seen this happen twice. Both times it was a Ford truck and both times they popped out of park and rolled into the lake.

It's a dodge anyway. Should've left it down there.

I have to admit I came damn close to doing this earlier in the year. Backed down, put in park and get out of the truck. Soon realized it had slipped out of gear and got it stopped just before it would have been to late. In another second or two and I would have pulled a Cody Malone except in a Chevy.

Yes.

Always set the parking brake. Also as mentioned, reverse isn't really required to back down the ramp, it's just a habit we have for making the vehicle move backwards. Neutral provides plenty of propulsion, and you should be coasting down the grade covering the brake anyways, not driving backwards.

As for ramp slime... if the truck was able to come to a complete stop and become parked on the surface from having been moving backwards down the grade in the first place, gravity wouldn't suddenly overcome the friction of the parked vehicle when the friction was sufficient to halt it from movement to stationary. Gotta say that sounds like excuses for "I don't know what happened but I screwed up and this is what I am gonna say coz it sounds less like my fault"... those moments where in a single instant you completely destroy something with a seemingly harmless action or oversight are the absolute worst though... so whatever you have to say to feel better I suppose... that's what good insurance is for I guess? haha dunce
