yep, and look at all the ones that have 4wd and 22" wheels with no rubber on them and as for running a truck with 4wd on pavement whether it is wet or not is asking for trouble. I will run mine in 4wd to keep things working right but always in a straight line and never over about 30 mph.

So in your opinion what is the magical number of times 4wd getting used makes it justified?

Have 3 4WD's. As they just have paved my dead end road out here in the country, miles from town,,,Once would be enough!

There isn't a number. I know that I will use 4x4, not if or might or I could, I use it several times a year sometimes several times a month/week/weekend, therefore I buy one. If we didn't have our ranch I wouldn't need one and would go back to a 2wd if buying another truck.

I wonder how many people who have a 4x4 for no reason other than "I might need it some day" fall into the same category of people who sell guns, motorcycles, big boy toys etc. every year because they cant pay their income/property taxes?

All I'm saying is buying just because you may need it someday is pretty stupid.

I have 4 WD so I can pull those who don't think they need it and make fun of those who have it just in case out of the ditch when they get stuck.

If me having 4 WD is what has caused the financial difficulties in America, I'm way more important than I ever thought I was.

BTW, my wiener is just fine, thanks for asking.

There is an old saying....Better to have and not need, than to need and not have. Guess What? MY 4WD is a RAM with a CUMMINS......

There is an old saying... well maybe there isn't, but there should be if there isn't, don't buy stuff you don't have a use for.

Would you buy flood insurance if you lived on the top of Mt. Everest? I see some of you would roflmao

This discussion pops up on the Tacoma forum probably once a month. People have different needs. The ones on the Tacoma forum that live up north or are off roading a lot insist that no one should even consider a 2wd. Unless you live in an area where it snows or you are using the truck off the road there is really no reason to spend the extra money on a 4x4. This especially true today because more vehicles have lockers and LS. I use to run around an 1100 acre ranch on the Colorado river in my 2wd 2009 with a locker and LS with no problems at all. The OP's concern was getting up boat ramps. With a locker I see no reason to spend the extra money on a 4x4 just for boat ramps. I am in the same camp as Red Chevy.

You say that, but to me its all the people saying buy 4x4 on the off the wall chance that are specializing in that field.

Toyota use to have a Tacoma Prerunner 2wd that was lifted with bigger tires (they may still offer it, idk). I'm surprised you don't see that more in half tons with a rear locker. Personally, I prefer the looks.

Maybe that's why we have a differing opinion on it. I think lifted 2wd trucks with big tires are worthless too! roflmao All sho no go.
