Thanks everyone for your advices, especially CatfishAddiction and Blues on THUMB. I know the basic on setting tension and drag, etc., what really helpful to me was using my thumb to slow down the spool to get the feel of this reel, then gradually ease off my thumb on casts once I got good feel... this reel is very cool, great for accuracy cast,...but prolly can handle no more than 10 mph, and it'd be easier from a boat than from water level casting... more later...
Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

When I cast down hill line just flew off the reel effortlessly... on flat ground as long as you could maintain rod horizontally parallel and line shoot out at 180 degree (not easy to do when you're waist deep in water and two foot waves hitting your chest ), no problem with backlash ...however, raising rod up just enough to create angle between the rod and the line will bird nest. Any hang time will bird nest, so will loading rod too quickly... the reels spool spin so fast even with tension set at near max break level, always need to thumb the spool quickly at the end of every cast, so need to watch the spool closely... Very little room for error...

Reel sounds defective. sell it to me at half price and I'll take it off your hands. LOL!!! I've been keeping up wit this post. It sounds like you're on the right track. Thumb drag is critical on all cast no matter the conditions. The lighter the weight, the harder it is. Believe it or not, I have issues with certain braids on my Abu's as well.

Haha sorry I don't sell my toys, besides this reel look pretty...lol
May be need to clarify, when I talked about casting, usually I'm talking about long distance casting,...not what you can see on side scanner...
There are features on this reel that are cool, clicker on/off is one of them...the way it cast has some potential, e.g. 60 yrd with very tight brake setting, how far can you cast with loose brake? Etc. We'll see... of if somehow I could figure out how to cast in the wind... might even open it up just to see inside gears. . May be it is defective, lol

A 60 yard cast is pretty good...I wouldn't complain about that.
As far as setting the brake, I don't set it up like it says in the instructions. If you drop the bait and it hits the ground and no more line comes off...your brake is set too tight. You just got to learn to slow it down before your bait hits the water.

It's not a defective reel it's just really fast. You could always replace the level wind with a non bearing one or at least I think...haven't got to look at the 2014 model 6600 but I know the 7000 are different.

That's cool pics, my reel is still under manufacturer warranty so I don't worry about the parts, I'm more curious than anything. Fascinating how I can tighten brake to hold 3 oz sinker in place yet when I casted the spool can spin and overshoot so fast...

Whole lot easier to hold three ounces still than to stop the torque of a thrown rig

Whole lot easier to hold three ounces still than to stop the torque of a thrown rig true, my initial thought was that setting brake so tight might see smoke, on repeat casts... frictionless brake technology, magnetic brake?

That's one shining reel, how far can you throw with your reel?
