all the locals will tell you, Hawkins, but they will be somewhere else. check the results for Hawkin's weekday/night tourney. that will tell the tale. five years ago TPWD rated Hawkins as void of bass, i have not been since then, it was a great little lake 15 years ago.
i have never fished Winnsboro at night, Holbrook and Quitman can be good and sometimes slow. thats how fishin go!!
you drive a few more minutes and go to Gilmer.

It is taking 14 lbs or so to win at Hawkins every week right now (3 hour tournament). For the past 3 weeks Winnsboro has been taking 7-9 lbs to win (4 hour tournament).
Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!

you drive a few more minutes and go to Gilmer. Fished a tournament at Hawkins post spawn and it took 17 to win. You used to be prepared to fight when you called men liars......shame times change

I would choose Hawkins and Holbrook with a slight edge to Holbrook. Hawkins can be a ball fishing those pads though.
Both are pretty good little lakes.

Hawkins kicked my tail this week. We didn't catch a keeper. Winnsboro was better this week. Took 14 to win, 13 for 2nd, and 5.21 big bass.
Set the hook first, ask questions later!!!

I hit all the tpwd brushpiles and not a bight. Should have fished docks instead. I did not see any schooling. Caught 1 yellow bass. Thermocline is around 15 feet. I fished the points with brush plies shallow to deep including the piles. Never saw a number of good size fish on any of the points. I put trails all over the airs I fished so I know I strained the water with texas rig and crankbait. Guess the fish don't get very activate at night or I was was fishing way to fast. I like the lake and I will be back Holbrook. Hopefully next I get something figured out.

Man I was out in that area last week, we stayed at the silverleaf resort @ holly lake. We hit Hawkins hard about 30 min before sunup to 11am. Caught one maybe 1 lb fish. We tried everything. Deep, shallow, points, humps, laydowns, dams, pads, stumps, hydrilla, sand. With every bait imaginable.
That lake got me excited. But dang.
We fished lake greenbriar the rest of the time and did exponentially better.

I fished out there today. 6-2. I got at least 20 bites but only landed 1 fish around 8 inches. I am guessing it's just small bass trying to eat my worm. All but 2 of my bites were shallow. I had 2 c rig bites on a point in about 12 ft. It stole my 10 inch worm. 3 cast later I missed another bite. I also fished every tpwl brush pile and not one bite. I saw a few schools but they where only up for about 10-15 seconds.
