As for what I'm using when it happens most

- Strike King 2.5 square bill with the factory hooks
- BPS fluorocarbon 14lb. Test
- St.Croix Mojo Bass crankbait rod
- Abu Garcia Revo SX 6.4:1
Just make sure that the rod matches the weight of the lure you are using because they do make crankbait specific rods in different weights. Next time you hook up pay attention to how much the rod is bowing as well, it should be bending around 90 degrees or better under full load. I learned all of this from a master in his day; David Fritz, he was Mr. Crankbait in his days on the BASS tour won many tournaments and a Classic title if I remember right....... A lot of the current top tournament fisherman that specialize in crankbaits probably have been influenced by David...........Hooks yes just make sure they are the same size as what you took off. I tried larger hooks on crankbaits and it seems to kill the action......I also used to keep a hook sharpener handy and sharpened the hooks on the lures I was using the day before.......you have to be careful with that these days because some of the more modern hook styles might not take sharpening very well and may actually dull them.......I really don't set the hook either but I do pull real hard on first impact to reverse the fishes direction..........
