CTRboy thank you for the detailed report. Very helpful. I was there on Saturday morning for the first time. I knew it was going to be a learning experience. Although we managed a few fish on the rocks, nowhere near the amount some of the other guys were catching. So the rig you're describing with the 3 oz lead below the jig, how far down should the weight be from the jig? Also are you experiencing a lot of hang ups using this rig and what weight would minimize my hang ups? I appreciate any info. I'll be going Thursday or Friday morning. Not looking to decimate populations just a couple for the table.

hey fishinjack: you can use 3ft leader meaning... 3 ft away from the weight.... reason why you use leader is that... just incase you hangup you can always retie your leader and jig faster than re-rigging your setup.... getting hung up is part of fishing... learning your structure underneath and area your fishing... once you get hung several times... you learn never to work that certain area... move around the rocks... watch around you... lots of people are fishing the rocks for a reason... no fish are caught on the wall.. most people that fish the wall are tight lining and catching nada.... would be in your best interest to fish a spot that is producing...

3oz and letting it sink would produce nothing but getting hung up all day every day

What y'all think about this reel? Shimano Ultegra 5500 Power and max drag not specified, big question mark for DD?

Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

I would go with the new daiwa emblem pro ex. I had the ultegra but had problems with my bail closing when I casted and I would loose my expensive [censored] pencil popper. I haven't had a problem with the emblem and its a casting sucker.

Does anyone know how to get to the dam right now from the metroplex? Is Roosevelt bridge still open?

I also caught about 15-20 stripers below the damn on the 14th with it on a 9' rod with 2oz bucktails. it held up with no issues.
And just an FYI on the ultegra if you get the xsc version when you flip the bail in the correct spot it will lock everything from moving so you can cast as hard as you want without fear. Im sure other versions do this as well.

If you really need to catch fish past your legal limit to sell, then I suggest you get a real f**king job. I hope you all that do this get busted by the wardens so hard and make you go in debt that you have to move back in with your mom. I have no idea why you have to rape the river of fish that it leaves very little for others. Poachers should be thrown over the spillway.
FYI. The fishing person only have 5 fishes in his legal limit, after he packing up to going home the Game warden dressed in civil clothes Undercover came up to chit chat with him and Asked to get some fishes and offer money. That when the problem started.

There are currently 4 game wardens dressed in civil clothing out there. It is also illegal to share a cooler or stringer while your fishing. For example 1 stringer means one person if you have two people fishing and you both caught 3 each that's 6 fish on one stringer. Means one fish over the limit for one person. Same goes for the cooler. Just FYI MY FRIENDS. Let's keep it honest
