Maybe because you're using a surf rod as opposed to a regular rod and 100 lb test line.

Haha it wouldn't matter because it's the same rod on 2 diff fish. But my surf rod is fairly light. Beginning of the season I was using a 8fter on 3000 reel and 20lb braid. This past week I upgraded to 9fter on 4000 reel

Last thing you want is to go out there and not be able to throw where the fish are biting. Using a small rod, you won't be able to cast a 1oz + jig very far. Anything less than 1oz won't even sink in that current

Sure catching a big fish is fun on ultra lite tackle. Not fun when the fish is killing your drag and you tangle with fishermen 20yds down and your line happen to break from the friction of the tangle

Funny thing about fishing is any fisherman even a bad fisherman can teach a veteran fisherman things and Vice versa. Everyone I've ever met who really loved to fish think totally different than anyone else I knew that fished hardcore. I love it

Nobody knows how long quality of fishing lasts. Only can accurately guess how long water should flow based on lake level and flooding down river. Fishing quality breaks all rules and has no absolutes
