I use 12 to 15 lb ande or big game. Unless there are trees involved. Big fish below denison usually feel heavy very slow head shakes and go up stream unless hooked at dam then they tend to go down river and you better be fast to follow plus hope they dont get into old bridge lumber.

Keep em tight!

was it because of the 13 boats fishing the same 100'x100' hole in the river? maybe.
won't be long now & those boats will be gone

Oh & to the assclowns in the fancy white 18' bass boat that was stabbing the bow on every waveroflmao
all while throwing tiny rattletraps on bass gear like 20 feet.........
You're out of your league, boys. next time bring the right gear & pay attention to the bank anglers you're cutting the lines of, sure hope it didn't end up in your prop....NOT! violin

lol nice to hear that some of them are a good fight. I just know that the surf rod I have is so big that I want to catch them on lighter tackle . The boats should be gone soon and bait will be dwindling, so fishing will get better I would think.

The hardest thing to wrap my pea brain around is:

I can cast out the 50-100 yards but if I use a float (indicator) to leader 3ft, I dont belive I am getting down to the strike zone cause of float...

If I remove float, I get caught in the deep on the rocks and current and busted line...

Any recommendations, suggestions??

For the record, I am fishing out of state and I promise not to take your spot on the Texoma wall

Thanks,
GoldSpoonr

Don't put too much slack in your line. Also if u have a short rod the angle of your line is more horizontal which will increase getting stuck in rocks. Keep memory of where u get hung up and try to avoid by reeling in faster or more quick pumps on the jig. Ur gonna lose some jigs.... it's inevitable

no worries man. I was just trying to find out if I should even bring the big surf rod. I love catching fish, but really love catching big fish on lighter tackle. I know gear matters here but catching 5 pound stripers on a 11 foot surf rod with 50 pd braid seems like overkill lol. I guess thats the way it goes though. I would hate to have a big fish on with the light tackle and lose it, but Biddy seems to get some decent ones on lighter tackle. So I think I will try that first.

Bring both. Leave one in the car or on the sideline. U won't know until u try.

What setup do u have

Thanks Wilson!

Yes Sir, I dropped about $30 in lures this weekend fishing Lake James State Park in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains in NC this weekend but it sure was fun.

Do you believe 2-3 ft is deep enough for fish to see your presentation when there is a 30 ft drop in front of you? Thats my dilema; I dont believe the fish see the jigs I am throwing out because of the diffrence in depth???

Thoughts/suggestions?
