Does anyone know if this project has any hope of being started anytime soon. It sure seems to make sense to get more structure to attract more fish, rather than just limit the number of fish you can take. http://www.texasgreatbarrierreef.com/index.html

Hi I am new to this board. I talked to Jim Smarr with the RFA about a month ago and they have got there non profit corp set up and now they have to deal with approvals from ACOE so I dont think it will start in the spring, but we can only hope.

New here also, and Thanks for the reef RFA. It should not be far off the coast and not to deep but I started fishing Sabine Offshore and caught good snapper in 30 feet of water. as big as the structure will be it should hold a ton of snapper.

Within statewaters so I would assume that the depths would be around 60ft +

From what I read, it will be within state waters. The Texas Clipper, an old research ship belonging to Texas A&M, is in the Port of Brownsville now being conditioned for placement as a reef off our coast. I spoke with Aaron Reed of the TP&W public info branch and he said the project was proceeding. He said there is also legislation that would allow private parties to place reefs with state approval and proper preparation of the reef materials. Pretty cool! Alabama with it's tiny Gulf Coast had the largest recreational catch of snapper of any Gulf Coast state thanks to their artificail reef program according to one article.

Hi B4B, welcome to the site! I too can't wait to see this project take off. It would be cool to be able to catch nice snapper year round without burning $200 of gas!!!

Hey Keith, I thought of you while I was at Texoma yesterday. Chad got a new flyrod for the salt and wanted to try it out on stripers. Didn't catch much but had a good time with my boy. Later

Sounds like a blast. I cant wait to take my boy fishing for his first time and a fly rod is a great way to teach them. It will make them pay attention to detail and teach them finesse when it comes to casting. That is awesome and I am glad you guys had a good time. Sometime this coming year, I will take a few flyfishing only trips up there and have some fun. Glad to hear all is well and wish you guys the best of luck and a happy new year. I have been hearing that the fishing has been kind of tough on Texoma recently. I havent been out in a while because I have been hitting up Fairfield. Beer, what kind of boat you running? 600$ OUCH!!! I would be heading out with partners on every trip. 1-200 a person sounds much better than 600$...
Yes, Long live the TGBR... Let the project begin and watch our fishery grow!!!!!!
