For those who wonder why people throw pencil poppers far. There modified. Drilled a hole in the back and add bbs with silicon at the end. Or epoxy. Been doing this since 2004. When i was a newbie We did not buy Dave's out until 2007. He had plenty of the 3 oz poppers until then. Now you do have to add weight to the 7" poppers unless you have the really good gear. liteliner, I do not understand why folks throw dead fish up on the bank. Slit their belly and throw them in the water for turtles and other things to eat. A few fish do die coming through the floodgates. I have seen their floating carcasses in a couple of eddy areas but they will sink soon. Keep in mind there is a real mix of people fishing below the dam from folks who may or may not be literate to those who are college graduates with very good jobs. I wonder if our rocket scientists from Austin will be back up here? There is one local who, well, he never has been a nice person. I think he believes he owns the wall. There are many who are good people. Just like any place, stay away from the bad folks.

Anybody know whats the lightest rod out of the 5. Penn battlion Daiwa td classic s Daiwa salt pro coastal Laminglas ron arra Or Wilsons lami lol sadly those who stand on the sidelines wishing for clues to be handed to them will never get it. It was like this in '07, & I was as guilty as the next person looking for an 'easy ride'. it ain't that, period. When the river runs at Denison it's for the hardcore. you're gonna have to go down there, watch until you build confidence, and start casting. You're gonna lose ALOT of gear, you're gonna figure out the "surf rod" you brought is completely worthless here that's part of it. It aint easy. St Croix has the rods, it just takes an educated mind to know where to look if you know what you need in a rod to fish denison @ these levels, the battle is half-won. BTW fishing successfully in this [censored] costs $$, if you can't, don't. just a few truths for those thinking its a "fish in the barrel" situation i went to the dam for the first time in like 20 years. since i didnt know what the hell i was doing, i just watched some of the guys for a while then started copying what they were doing. and i stayed away from everybody so i wouldnt mess up their sh!t. and i ended up sacrificing everything i bought at dave's ($50 worth) to the river lure god. any of you pros wanna put a noob under your wings? ill buy lunch. and i promise im not a weirdo. lol

Looking for suggestions. I want to buy new surf Lamiglas Rod. I am hoping to reach the wall. My casting distance sucks right now.
What should the lure weight be for the rod ? Is it best to buy 9ft, 10ft, or 11ft rod ?

my son he's only 13, been using this setup, so far working great for him. I think rod and reel weight less than 30oz.
