How long will fishing stay good now that rain is gone It will be good for a couple of years I would think. The lake is pouring fish into the river by the thousands. I remember back in 1990 when the spillway ran over. The biggest stripers were caught on the river. And they were caught in abundance. This is around the time the air boat craze started. I had a customer who was also a striper guide who took me out twice. It didn't take long either trip to limit. He had a big air boat and took us about 6 miles downstream. Made one throw with the net. Loaded up on shad. And went right back to the dam. He rigged with only a large treble hook...nothing else. He ran the treble hook through the body right behind the dorsal fin. Pitched it in and let it swim where it went. Some of them would surface and the stripers would hit them several times knocking the scales off then would finally take them. He would have us point our rods at the commotion and when we finally felt pressure set the hook. It was very fun and exciting. He made it look easy.

Agree with newpontooguy... big cats and big stripers were caught on the wall on both Texas and Oklahoma sides back then. Once they shut the generator and spillway both pools will have big fish in it. I've caught big cats/stripers with skipjack herring (dead and alive).

I did want to point out that The Corps has made sure there are LOTS of trashcans all around the damsite. USE THEM!!It's sad to see all the trash out there, leaving THEIR trash for somebody else. I bet I saw over 200 Fluke packages & other various tackle packaging, line, water bottles, beer cans, bait cups.....& mostly empty trashcans ALL recyclable, & none of it is necessary. I'm bringing a trashbag on Thursday & will be cleaning the areas I fish, & will also be calling out the losers that treat this place with such disrespect. I appeal to those that appreciate DD as much as I do, to do the same. maybe I shouldn't complain, I havent seen any dirty diapers floating downstream yet.....

Didn't have a cell phone back then. Didn't carry a camera either. We didn't take pics of everything we did back in them days. Just trying to share something I did and some tips that I learned 25 years ago.

Off topic.. But the point has been made several times.. TRASH.. I always carry a box of trash bags in boat, and most days out we will beach the boat and take a walk and fill up a bag or two to take home, have found several tackle boxes, lots of lures, ect. Doing this... Maybe a few of you guys would like to meet up below dam for a hour or so and pick it up.. Maybe hand out some trash bags to the locals up here... Everyone grips about it, but is all you can do? If anyone is interested let me know when and I will be there... Such a shame to see OUR land being trashed out like this... If you don't come to dam on texoma, get some guys together and hit your local lake... Just saying..
