Let me emphasize on the Jackwagon part. The trotline had a CLEAR small marker jug. With the waves on Sunday it was impossible to see it. Tag Requirements Trotlines in fresh water must be used with a valid gear tag. Properly marked buoys or floats qualify as valid gear tags. Gear tags must be attached within 3 feet of the first hook at each end of the trotline and are valid for 10 days after the date set out. None of these requirements were met.
Cut and run wasn't possible due to how badly it was wrapped. We tried but it wasn't happening. I'd like to give Salsa a big Thank you for holding the ramp for us. After this incident I'm going to have a hard time leaving illegal lines alone. wow, sorry to hear about the unfortunate tangle with the trot line. Glad you guys were able to make it back safely without loss of life or property. I ran a trot-line probably 15 years ago on a family vacation, and a buoy wasn't required, although it was acceptable for purposes of a gear tag, as you quoted the regs. Sounds like this person needs a lesson in properly setting a trot-line deep enough to not impede boat traffic as much as anything.

In case some of you don't know. The state changed the white jug requirement this year, you can now use any color of jug you'd like, not sure if orange is still for commercial use only though.

Yes, I knew that. However; using a CLEAR plastic bottle may be legal but it's stupid. It was illegal for the reason I posted. I'm with you, clear is a bad choice. What really needs to happen is your game warden needs to get out and start enforcing the law. They hit our lakes pretty hard for awhile and people started doing a better job marking their lines.

I was just saying that jugs aren't required for fixed trot-lines. They are for jug lines, though. The owner just needs to set it deeper and there won't be a problem. Attach a little gear tag (could be submerged and still legal). Remove trot-line when finished.

Lots of "single" jug lines floating around. We pick up those that are mossy and toss them in the trash.
