I use the same truck I use for everything else, a 2013 F-350. It is not great on fuel compared to some, 16 mpg empty, 13 mpg with the boat, and 10 mpg with the cattle trailer or the flatbed with a 17k load on it. I have no complaints with it.

Doesn't surprise me Ford is leading the survey. Also, doesn't surprise me Toyota has a strong showing. Their involvement in fishing appears to be paying off. Wonder how this survey compares to truck ownership overall in Texas?

Doesn't surprise me that GM is leading the way (Chevy and GMC). You make the most reliable truck on the road and you lead the way.

I'll never buy another vehicle that isn't a Toyota. My 2001 Tundra had 175,000 miles on it when I sold it and it never needed anything but tires and oil. The most reliable anything I have ever owned.

I don't think many will argue against Toyota as the most reliable and best resale, but they are pricey and suck the gas (because they have so much power). Especially price of gas past few years and all the value shoppers Toyota will never have a majority market share.

I have a 2001 too! We'll never sell that truck and approaching 200k miles like yourself. Our only problem over 200k miles was when it had about 60k miles the fuel pump started failing and they replaced it. I guess all the Gulf States Toyotas had this problem as they tried to put a different fuel pump in there expecting everyone to be in warmer conditions. Pretty amazing that was the only problem and they fixed it.

I bought a 2012 and really love it as they finally went to a full size body and the 10,500 lb towing is everything I need.

That's pretty good rob, my Chevy made it 262,000 before it had the first part replaced on the engine. An alternator that took me about 10 minutes to replace and didn't leave me stranded.

My single cab four banger Taco is a terrible tow vehicle, but I tow trailers up to 3500 pounds (limit of the truck) and have for well over 150,000 miles now. Its rough, rides like a buckboard, slow as can be getting on the freeway with a trailer, swills fuel while towing, and creates hemorrhoids. But, I never walked home once. I have been through creeks, ponds, mudholes galore, across deserts, up and down mountains, ran over logs, ditches, boulders, and curbs, climbed up muddy embankements, over many a medians getting out of Houston traffic, and gone where I pointed it then back again every time.

I've had Jeeps, Fords, Chevys, Dodges, Nissans, Internationals, and Isuzus, all of which left me walking more than once. Now I've blowed up a couple of Tacos, but I ALWAYS made it home.

Nothing is more comfortable than a big American pickup with a V-8. The AC will freeze you out sitting on the parking lot idling on the hottest day of summer and it'll pull a trailer full of dinosaurs over the Tehachapi Pass. But I have yet to own one that didn't get towed home and to the shop at some point.

The Taco AC will quit thirty seconds after you get to a train that won't move and you'll roast while watching those folks in Fords and Chevys stay cool. But I never hadda get a tow home.

quarter million miles good as it gets for any truck. what scares me with the American trucks is there is so much "get this year and get this engine or else...". people that stay on top of it know what to get, but by this point they should ALL be reliable.

Reality is they are all good. Internent creates hearsay sure a few MYs are better then others but majority of owners of any brand does not have signifigant issues. The ones that have problems bark the loudest. Owned chevys for years only had wheel bearing issues due to running oversized tires. Switched to a Ford this year.

I'm not on board with Toyota being the most reliable... That seems to be what most Toyota owners say when they know the fuel mileage is horrible and look terrible! Everyone has to have a plus for their brand I guess. Everyone loves whatever brand they are driving but they all have issues.

If Toyota was so much more "reliable" and sought after we would see that in their sales. They did a great marketing ploy to put a plant in Texas and that has worked well for them.

I'm a bow tie man. But have a ecodiesel and I will admit that it pulls a 20' triton 17mpg highway at 70mph and 27mpg highway no boat and it pulls a boat like a boss. The ecodiesel is the real deal.

Like I said price is king and Toyotas are the most expensive for what you get upfront. Most people don't want to make the jump in price for wishy washy benefits like supposedly better reliability, few nicer features, and better resale. Add into that the terrible gas mileage when we've had almost $4 gas and no way Tundra will compete for top market share.

The fact is the imports caused Detroit to get their act together decades ago and there is very little gap anymore. There are American trucks just as reliable as Toyota, but as I said you get some bad years and bad engines. The Tundra is always good and consistent, especially with the driveline. The biggest bad news for the Tundra was when the new generation first came out the tailgates weren't holding up like they should, but they worked it out. Imagine that, the biggest problem ever for Tundra has been their tailgate on a brand new design that was quickly fixed.
