Im going to try fishing the dam in a week or two. Can you catch fish down stream from the wall without a surf rod? Texas side. I have 6'6" med-heavy action spinning rods with 50#braid. What type of lure presentation would you use? I'm trying to avoid the circus at the wall. And I haven't been there in20 years so I forgot how to fish it.

Nice fish, Wilson Biddy. I can't wait until it goes down just a little. I still cannot believe the water level is almost right there by the floodgates. Look at the water level on the concrete wall of the floodgates. It is what maybe four or so feet out of the water? Unreal! I do not remember it being anywhere near this water level in '90.

This is definitely not bring your wife and kids type fishing.

I would think you would need a surf rod just to sustain a big run in that current if you hooked into a big fish.Would strip a lot of line.

Since I'm not familiar with the Dennison dam area this might be a silly question, but can fish now swim upstream from below the dam and get into the lake?

Made it to Denison Dam. Took some video, fished but struck out. Did see others hook up; was able to get video of two nice Stripers being pulled in. Been itching to go to Denison Dam with all the water being released and reports of Striped Bass being caught! Saturday's Video.

Fishing is tough, saw a few pulled. But saw more people fall due to dangerous current and slippery rocks. Managed one

Just long enough for a bite. Then when I went sometime after I got out of high school you would cast out and it would just go down stream right away.

Back in the 90s the didn't have that cement wall near the tex generators. After they put that in the current is pushed against it and down stream. 90s was the best. Just like 90s music

Yeah we went out there to check it out over the weekend and it was nothing like how it was back then. Besides for the wall, I don't know if its early, or the water was too rough, but there was no middle class fish. (18 to 25 inch) I saw maybe one middle class fish the whole time rest were the big ones from up top or babies. I just liked catching the middle class ones back then. Less work, and could limit out faster. I think I heard a guy say he was there 3 hours fishing before he caught his one big fish.

What's a entry lvl lite rod for up there? Just something to start with and try to learn. I was thinking just a salmon and steel head rod from bass pro or cabelas. Those seem lite.

Texoma license is no good below the Dam. Texas license is good on Texas side only down to Shawnee Creek. Otherwise you need an Oklahoma license past the creek or OK side. $90 fine or $50 non-resident license if you live in Texas.
