Game Wardens told him its up to him. I personally wouldnt. Heck he went to whitney below the dam today and caught this!Im telling you hes hardcore! Stupid...yes, but agian its up to you to risk it or not. Your "stupid" friend is very anticlimactic. Now I just remember why I don't fish lake texoma or the red river. The first time and last, camped at Eisenhower SP, I made my whole family wear PFD... we fished awhile in the morning, caught one catfish blue which was checked by GW,... fishing was slow so I went over a corner of a steep cliff,.. I turned around when I heard "Daddy " there my wife and my 4 yr son then were bobbing in 2-3 foot waves of water, some time very close to the rocky cliff other times looked like the waves were carrying them away. I dropped my gears and jump in the water... after I dragged them out of water my son asked me what was that for, "we were having fun", I said that was it....I got to find a more suitable lake to fish where they can "have fun" and I can fish. I was thinking about going to DD just once, am waiting out the crowd, your friends. .. well, I am just going to stay closer to home.
Why do I go fishing? To catch a box of fish and/or some quality time under the sun. Thank Heaven I never fail fishing in Texas, catching box fish or plenty of sunburn.

just don't act too stupid up in that area because the usual crowd that fishes there religiously will have no problem of putting anyone in their place if they get in the way of fishing or endangering anyone

Has never seen that strong 134,000.00 CFS. Every one should stay out of that area and wait till it is safe. The fish will be there when the water slow down and safe to fish. Be careful every one!

still 134K CFS this morning, & 156K CFS inflow, looks like almost 5' over the spillway still not keeping up, it looks like it'll get worse before it gets better! on the bright side, this event is gonna recharge that river for the next 5 years!!

We drove down just to look. It is pretty unbelievable. On the OK side the water is right there. I mean you get out of your vehicle and water is almost level with the bank. There is virtually no place to fish. Water is spraying on the sidewalk and they have put up temporary barrier fences to keep people away from the edge.
On the Texas side where the stairs are, the height of the river is not that far down. They have blocked off the wall to vehicles and you have to carry everything there. The 1000 yard cable is not that far out of the water now. The amount of water going over the spillway is unbelievable. They may have caught up with the inflow for now. That is unless we get more rain. The outflow from the spillway alone is 80K cfs and generators and floodgates is 46.5K cfs. They either think they have caught up to the inflow or have given up trying to predict how high or when Texoma will crest.
It may be a couple of weeks before it is fishable. When it does go down a little, there should be tons of big fish to be caught.
