Unusually wet spring weather and flooding throughout Oklahoma and Texas has ended drought conditions plaguing the region for years. Now there is too much water and many lakes are filled to the brim and overflowing their spillways. Lake Somerville in Central Texas reached maximum capacity on May 29, 2015 with more rain forecasted over the next week or so.

Few waves pushing over the spillway, that's about it.

Lake Level is 258.19. They have been slowly opening up the dam gates over the last couple of days. Flow is just over 500 cfs at 9:00 AM this morning.

Went to check the spillway this afternoon about 4pm. It is going over the spillway but it is just a trickle....not really even enough to talk about. Lots of shad working around the spillway area though. Lots of lookers out there. Parking lot was pretty crowded and I figured that because I kept meeting cars coming from that area(I went across the dam). Did see one boat on the water around Welch but have no idea how or where he launched from.

fished along the Lake Somerville dam all day today and didn't get one bite. Last Saturday we caught almost 100 in the same place. Last weekend lake 9 feet lower and on south wind. North wind today after the front made it seem like there wasn't a catfish in the lake. We keep our boat at Overlook Marina. There were quite a few whites and maybe hybrid hitting randomly just in front of the spillway. We trolled for a while but didn't get any hits. Tried quite a few places around the lake in addition to the dam. It's so bizarre everywhere you go with the high water. Pretty easy to get into Rocky Creek park flooded campsites. Looked really fishy but nothing doing. Maybe we're looking in the wrong places or maybe it was one of those days. Beautiful day on the water.

How easily were you able to get out to your boat? Are the walkways under water?

I was at the spillway yesterday. It doesn't look like the gates have been open for several days. The 500 cfs from the Army Corp. of Engineers is what is going over the emergency spillway. I think their calculation is on the high side. There was barely a trickle going over the emergency spillway yesterday and the website had the rate at 900 cfs. Sure didn't look like that much to me.

That's interesting, thanks for the information.

Lake Level is 258.33 and showing 991 cfs being released from the dam. Or estimated from what is overflowing the spillway.

They have a little ferry they shuttle you out to the dock and then it's normal. Everyone should go to Overlook Marina and check it out! There is remarkably little debris in the lake, mostly grass and reeds. I haven't seen any floating logs though I'm sure there are a few. We've been staying in open water or along the dam but it was easy and safe to get into shallow water at Rocky Creek park. Lake is beautiful. Water is gin clear. Normal fishing spots are 20 ft under water that's all :-)

I live closest to Overlook and fish there from time to time. Are they catching anything at Overlook? Any Sunfish biting around the Marina? I like to fly fish for sunfish around that area.
