Met C Worthy today and bought a Minn Kota Terrova from him. Excellent communication throughout, stayed true to his word to give me first shot, great deal, motor and all accessories look barely used, just as he described. Heck of a nice guy too. Wouldn't hesitate to tead with again, in fact, I'd look forward to another great deal like this one!

This is going to go more as a "buyer beware" than as a name bashing (especially since the person is a top-10 poster), but a few people do know who I am talking about.

Thought I was pretty good friends with a fellow TFF'er for many years and bought a boat from the person. It was a good deal, but thought that was because of being friends. Still, I asked questions and received answers that I wanted to hear. Again, because I thought we were pretty good friends, I didn't bother validating his answers for myself (STUPID ME).

The ad the person had on Craigslist (which I still have a copy of, even though the person took it down) stated that everything was in good working order and just needed a lower unit. In my Facebook direct messages, I specifically asked if the transom and floor were solid, in which I got "It's solid" in return.

I go ahead and get the boat, drain the fuel, clean the carbs, and do all the other stuff you should do when one has been sitting a while. It never ran right, though. Ran it 3 times trying to figure it out and gave up. Then I bought a compression gauge and saw right away that two cylinders were blown. Pulled the heads, and it is obvious that it had been run overheated MANY times. The damage was far too extensive and tell-tale to have happened recently or on just one run.

After tearing down the entire motor to rebuild, I then noticed that the transom didn't look right. Dug in to it and sure enough, it was mush. Transom was shot, stringers shot, and deck starting to dry rot. Far from ANYTHING solid.

Lucky for me, I am no stranger to restoring old boats. I bought it for $700 and even after I replace all the wood and rebuild the engine, I'm out less money than it's worth, so I'm still in the black. It's really just the principle of the matter here. I thought for sure you could trust a friend and a fellow TFF'er, but I have found that to not always be the case.

Buyer beware! Always do your own checking/research, no matter how much you think you trust the seller!!!

And just for the record, I do have copies of all ads the said person posted as well as all communication in regards to the deal (because the person is a habitual liar and likes to try to talk their way through situations).
