I've been entering their sweepstakes for the last 4 months. Every single time I check the box that says "No I do not want more info, or I am already a member" and yet they still call after the completion of the sweepstakes.

I've had a similar call a few times over the years. I really wonder where they got their list from???

Keeping personal information secure online gets more challenging by the day.

They sent me the magazine for what seemed like 3 years + for free after about a 20 year relationship with them I ended after deciding raising a family was going to keep me away from the sport much longer than I anticipated. I re-upped my membership about 2 years ago and they began to call me wanting me to do a long term deal. I went ahead and signed up for the long term package because I want to try to make it into the Opens on the co-angler side while I'm riding out this family raising thing....I just figured I'd be able to stay on top of the schedules better if I had the magazine coming all the time since you pretty much have to be ready to jump as soon as those co-angler spots become available because of demand..........

I think registering your number on the texas and national do not call lists may stop them from calling. It's real easy to do online

I started receiving the magazine a couple months ago and I never ordered or signed up for anything. Now I'm concerned.

It is not a scam. I received an unsolicited call about 8 months ago from Bassmaster Magazine not long after I purchased a 1yr subscription. They wanted to sell me a 5 year membership. They asked for my credit card info. Wrong! I said send me the info by snail mail and I will think about it. I started receiving bills explaining that they can't send my free gifts until I mail the first installments. Fast forward to yesterday, and I received a letter saying to pay up or I will be sent to collections!I called BASS and they simply removed my name from their billing. I asked for an explanation and she tells me don't worry, it would have never gone to collections. The letters are computer generated. I never agreed to buy a thing. I can't believe Bassmaster would stoop to this level to sell their magazine!!

Bassmaster ran an article a couple of months ago saying they do not use any magazine subscription services, and do not make phone calls.

Well something sure is fishy. Because the letter came from them and I called them. They knew about it. I call BS

Hmm, that's curious. Do you remember which issue? Is there a link?

It's nice if they wrote an article on it, but what are they doing about some company representing them (very aggressively, I might add) and asking for credit card numbers over the phone? I also don't believe what the article was about because I got a phone call, they sent me the renewal letter as I asked so I could review and then when I emailed them to get them to finally knock it off, they knew exactly what I was talking about.

Second part isn't directed at you, Chu, I am just trying to wrap my head around this situation.

Sorry, it was Wood Mag that had a short piece about the false subscriptions.
