Just bought the HDI-5 Elite and am a novice to setups. It's mounted on back of 1 pontoon where the airator pump box is but sticks below the pontoon. Cannot for the life of me get fish arches on the sonar. Can sometime get bait fish on downscan but not much there either. I fish fresh water in 50 ft maximum but usually under bridge or in cove of abount 25-30 ft. Really would like to use it to identify schools while under way and I need someone to give me the optimal settings to make this thing work right. 1st Lorance and bought it due to reputation. Previous 99.00 hummingbirds and somewhat same problem. Was hoping stepping up a couple grades would make a difference. All the videos I found on line were real short how to set this thing so it would work.

We do not need "CHIRP" in our waters...just sayin.
Lowrance now has "CHIRP" with the same transducers as in the HDS Gen2 and HDS Gen2 Touch ? and jacked the price because its "CHIRP" ? Oh and they also have blue tooth and wifi. Sorry but I do not need that in a finder. Just my 2 cents....
I do feel that Lowrance will be offering a all in 1 transducer in the near future "LSS3"
Sorry but I'm just not a fan yet....

Didn't see the need for CHIRP either for my use. Really need someone to tell me how to do the settings on this thing per my message. Thanks.

What do I need to use the Structure Map on my HDS 7? Also do any of you find it beneficial to use this option?

Just turn on the structure map overlay feature on the chart page (I think...) I don't use it because I have a map card and insight mapping that works just fine. Maybe I just don't understand the point of the structure map, seems several use it.

I go to a lot of lakes in Mexico that don't have maps. So I figured it was time for me to figure out how to use this feature.

That makes sense but you might check out insight genesis for that or Reefmaster.

I am by far a novice but I know my hds gen 3 will show a perfect line like those on yours when I pump my bilge which shoots a good 4 feet out to the right and 2 feet forward of my lss2 ducer so maybe if you have the slightest disturbance coming off your pontoon it may be having the same effect.

Ok I have a HDS 7 Gen 2 on the console and on the bow. I have the LSS-2 mounted on the transom. So I can get the down and side scan from the back of the boat at the bow and the console. But I want to put a transducer on my trolling motor that lets me have 2D and down scan at the front of the boat. I have been told that the non-touch HDS does not have this capability unless it runs through the structure scan box. Any Help?

Since the Structure scan box does not have a sonar transducer port on it, you would need the SonarHub module instead. The other options are to replace the GEN2 Non touch with an HDS7 Touch unit and run the HDI 83/200/455/800 transducer on the trolling motor. This would give you sonar/down scan up front. You would still be able to change your "Source" on the bow unit and pull side and down scan from the rear LSS transducer if you wanted to. Brian

That's what I thought. I really do not have to have the down scan up front but it would of been nice to have. Guess I'll just stay with the 2D up front. Thanks Allot Brian.

I have a new 12 touch with a major issue. The 2D sonar and the side/down sonar will stop scrolling. It is very hit or miss, sometimes it will work for an hour and sometimes it will stop every 30 seconds. If you change over to maps and then back to the sonar it will start working again. I have the correct transduce selected, I have downloaded the latest upgrade like the tech told me (made it worse). Waiting on Lowrance to get back with me. Just curious if anyone else has had this problem?
