None of the creeks came up except Nails. Surprisingly it got a 5 plus foot rise and is still flowing pretty good. There might be some fish in the lower end. Maybe some of you can go exploring grin

Still another month of hunting season, we need the rain either way. Lake is still 2ft low.

I fished Nails creek yesterday. I caught 3 LMB, 3 crappie and 2 WB. I fished it again this afternoon and caught 4 crappie, 5 WB, and 1 LMB. The fishing isn't great but at least I'm catching a few white bass early in the run. Keep the rain dance going banana

J-Moe, I want to give the area over where one parks at the Newman Bottom parking lot
and give it a go when the white bass run up the creek and begin active spawning.

Are you familiar with that area? I suppose late January (??) might dial me in about right, time-wise.

Brad

Howdy Brad, It all depends on rain. Currently Yegua creek is extremely low. It will take a big rain to raise the creek up 5 feet or so and allow the white bass to move upstream from the lake. The run in the Yegua always starts early as long as there is enough water. If we don't get that rain then there won't be a run at Newman bottom.

Thanks, J-Moe. Makes sense. My best white bass were caught on Lake Athens on Presidents Day 2017 as I recall. Athens has no river feed and no substantial creeks so they came up into the cove where I lived. TPWD man told me that the lake didn't have a large population of white bass . . . but the one's it had were very large. [Linked Image]

That's cool!! Must have been a hard, sandy bottom in that cove. Those are some hogs.

Although a few whitebass have made it up into the Yegua and Nails creek the run will really begin when the next substansial rain falls. It takes a good rise in the creeks and the lake for the fish to move up in mass and temperatures above 50 degrees really helps.

What's y'all's thoughts on Nails or cedar creek this weekend? Has the water level came up yet? Thanks.

Guys, the creeks are land locked. The lake is still over 2ft low. They have been past 2.5ft low since October. Unless we get a substantial amount of rain, there will not be a run like normal. They did not get the rain that was forecasted last week. I'm not saying that you won't catch some fish in the creek, but don't walk in there expecting limits. Plenty of deep holes for the fish to hide in when the lake drops, but they would have had to have been in the creek in September before the lake dropped. You can thank the COE for dropping the lake level yet again. They ruined duck season 2 years in a row and now a spring run. These fish usually start moving up in January on this lake. We got a have water before we can have a run.

Thank you for the report, Boudreaux. I had kinda figured, looking at the water data for the lake, that the creeks probably weren't running. It doesn't look good for the home team. Bummer about your duck season.
