I just checked the water data. The lake is releasing only 1068 cfs. What are your predictions on the fishing. Where should me and my son go? Rocky creek sounds good.

I have not heard any reports or been by there in a while. Maybe someone else can help. Big Creek is 20 to 30 feet deep and people almost always catch crappie there. Also, the white bass will school around that area as well. There is a sandy beach area with a point to the right of the store that will get hot in the spring.

On the other hand, Overlook is only 10 to 15 feet deep. But normally, during the pre-spawn and spawn the crappie fishing will be great at Overlook. The release of water, as well as, the opening of the dam have slowed the fishing down in that area.

I have been to the dam a couple of times. On both occasions people were catching whites, drum and hybrids. But it is an absolute Zoo down there. If you do go get there well before sunrise to get a good spot. Problem is people will crowd around you very tight as they start trickling in.

A friend of mine fished for white bass at Rocky Creek last Friday but didn't have much luck. It could pick up any time though.

The spillway is now releasing only 659cfs. Is that enough water to trigger white bass action? I am going their this Friday because I been researching and when the water is releasing is it really like a zoo? My son and I would like to get on this zoo action. We are traveling from Austin for this once in a year action. Am I too late? How dose the fishing work when the water stops? I saw some videos from YouTube and the water released from the spillway made everyone hook on fish.

You like fishing with a buttload of people? I hate it, lines getting crossed, people wanting to fish on top of you and such. Weekday mornings may be quite a bit better, but weekends will be swamped with peeps

It takes a lot of flow to actually draw the fish up to the dam, but after it has been flowing a while the fish will hold in that area until a couple days or so after the gates are closed. Yes, it is ridiculous down there. I watched a friend get tangled by other anglers twice in about 30 minutes. I got poked in the face by the end of a fishing rod. That's how close people will stand to you. Friday should not be near as bad though. Good luck!!!!

Where are the fish coming from? Are the fish coming from the dam that is releasing water? Has the fish been just scattered out in that channel and are drawn in my the water flowing? I am new to this. Thanks for all the reply's they are very helpful.

I needed to test drive my new Zodiac 11'Wave in anticipation of running offshore for Spaniards and state snapper, and seeing that Somerville is pretty close I launched around 1:00pm today at Pecan Lake. I was mainly programing the fishfinder/chartplotter and going through some steps with the 9.9 merc. yet I did do some fishing. It was windy, but after I got the feel of this rubber boat I trolled some crank baits that run about 10 feet. I boxed 6 whites, the two biggest 14" and 15" and was back on the road home by 5:00 Not bad for a couple of hours of actual fishing. I like catching whites from the lake more so than the the creeks during the spawning run...Lawton

Thanks Lottfisher, Pecan Lake seems to be another great spot. I sat and talked with a guy who fishes that area often. He told me there is a drop off in the cove about 50 yards from the bank. He said he catches a lot of white bass along the edge of that drop off.

Lake Level is 238.4. 0.4 ft above normal and releasing 355 cfs.

90% chance of rain on Sunday and Monday. Hopefully we can get some good reports this weekend.

If anybody is thinking of heading to lake or is already on the lake, be careful, have a big line of storms coming in from the west, they are just east of San Antonio right now. Another hour or so they should be close to Somerville.

If Monday is going to be rain and storms, then I will probably bank fish the lake then. I really don't care to fish weekends, and I think my friend Brian is off Monday. Pecan Lake, or Welch Park. I'll be the guy with 15 pvc pipe rod holders and a half mile of shore taken up...Lawton
