I grew up in southern IL, used to find them every spring, I haven't found any here in central Texas yes, don't think we get enough rain for them In the Hill country, they are abundant and they find them in Cen Tex - Waco, Whitney etc.... www.morels.com they have a message board and where people are finding them. They absolutely grow in Texas...I was of the same opinion several years ago as I was from Indiana, thought my hunting days were over.

Almost as good as chicken fried steak......kinda tastes like it. Those are pretty, Tom. I got some at the house I'm gonna cook if I ever make it back home.

And it's the dumbest rule ever. Every other state in the union encourages Morel mushroom hunting and our backwards TPWD has this rule. It was intended for plant life but whatever they say goes...They come up for 2 weeks a year, that's it and the organism is underground, they come back. That's why I stay away from State Parks (for morels)
