I noticed in an add from Academy that the h2o xpress mettle reel was on sale for $40 when normally $80. I already have one and it is by far my favorite reel out of the lot that I currently have (lews, abu's, wright & mcgill's, and so on...). So I head to the Academy in Arlington to pick one up and when I check out I am surprised. $10!!!! That is what I ended up paying. Now I don't know if this was a screw up at that store but I can't be sure. I am going to go to the Academy down the road from my work in Fort Worth to check it out... Just an FYI!

Did the price end in .98 cents?.....if so you probably got one of the older mettles on clearance.......

Xpress Mettle or Mettle MT2, either way, even at $59, it's a good deal! Right now the MT2 is on sale at $39.
Report back should you get a second one at that price!

It was the MT2 and it ended in .98. It was the same one I already have so it was last years I guess.

A couple of years ago, I was buying these for $25.00 @ Christmas time. I am glad that I bought them then, but sounds like you got a great deal.

All these "past" great deals on the Mettle and the Mettle MT2...still waiting to hear from Mr. Codyb and his trip to the second Academy to find out if the price is accurate or a big mistake. I'm guessing on one of those.

Academy monitors their inventory by barcode and each barcode has a "shelf life". It doesn't matter what the product is or the fact more "fresh" product is priced higher. They will clear it out regardless. I bought a $79.99 ethos rod for $19.00....great deal
