If had both Mercury and Evinrude eTec. They are both excellent. The real good thing about the e tec is there is no break in period. A good thing about Mercury is you can get it worked on most anywhere. My opinion is you couldn't go wrong with either one of these motors.

thanks guys I think a lot has to do with how its taken care of from day one. Still don't know why Yamaha power heads are going out??? thanks for your help Nice trolling motor

I have been using evinrude motors for past years. Work fine overall, but there have been some starting problems in colder weather. Again maybe it is my own fault because I dont store them in most warmest place.

As long as they are selling Mercury 2 strokes that's all I will own. Not saying anything bad about any other product just saying I have had great reliability with Mercury and have owned other brands as well.
