I'm about to donate some money to Crazy Angler Tackle, but was wondering what size hooks you guys prefer in relation to the jig head size?
1/8 oz with #2 or #4?
1/16oz with #2 or #4 or #6?

Most of the jigs i make up are 1/32 & 1/16. I use #4 on everything. Do I have a reason for it, no, not really. Will I ever change it up and use a different size, prob so. Btw, they went up $1.00 a pack on their unpainted jig heads.

1/16oz with #2 or #4 or #6? All of the above, the well equipped tackle box needs each of these sizes...

SURE! OK, OK, here is my advice...purchase the hook size that best corresponds to the size bait you use the most...Since I use various size baits, I have to maintain every size hook for each given lead size. Not only that, but I usually have a full assortment of ball, minnow, donkey, and hand modified heads in each size as well. But then my tackle box weighs 60 pounds, so don't do as I do...just get what you need to fit your favorite jig body size.

1/16oz with #2 or #4 or #6? All of the above, the well equipped tackle box needs each of these sizes... This Jacob! and here's why. Just say along with the CA jighead order, you bite the bullet for some Slab Bandit's and you get your favorite color's in all 3 sizes, plus a few packs of Crawler's. Then just for those really BIG WHITE crappie in Lake Palestine, you grab a few packs of that new Slab Commander. Now, to fish those little 1 1/4" "Mini" Slab Bandit's you must fish a 1/16oz jig with a #6 hook because the bait was designed to get the very best action with that jighead. Then, when you're fishing the 1 3/4" "Standard" Slab Bandit (or the Li'l Rascal, or Lane's Thump Buddies or Todd Box's bait's or several other's, you're gonna want a 1/16oz or a 1/8oz jig with a #4 hook, for the same reason, better action in the water. But when you want the really BIG fish and you're rigging up the 2 3/8" "Maxi" Slab Bandit or a Slab Commander or a Crawler or Lane's Thump Chubby or 1 of those Frog bait's that's slayin the Slab's lately, you're gonna need that 1/8oz or maybe a 3/32oz jig with a #2 hook. SO, like the guy said, th "Well Rounded" Tackle-Ho's bag is going to have a good supply of all those options, and probably a few more! That's my

It depends on the season and the size baits. Generally #2 on 1/8 and #4 on 1/16. There have been occasions in summer though where I've had to step down to the #6 on 1/16 because the baits i was using were 1.25" long. Right now you should be fine with #2 1/8 #4 1/16.

Well I guess I just is different. To me, 1/8 oz is a big jighead that I would use for larger baits. Size 1 or 1/0 hook for me. 1/16 usually is a bait that is the avg size for most fathead minners in a lake so I use Number 4 or sometimes a size 2. Now for me, 1/32 oz or smaller is a small bait! I use size 6 or even an 8 if I was bluegill fishin. I have caught some very ice crappie on a size 8 hook. But usually I would go with a size 6 on 1/32. I always try to match the hook size with the intended bait size. Usually but not always, bigger baits catch bigger fish so I use a bigger hook. An 8 inch crappie can easily take a 1/0 crappie. Crappie aint perch and they have a large mouth for their size. Just MHO, your mileage may vary a lot! Use what you feel most confident with and you will do just fine.

remember this sir the bigger the hook gap the more likely it will hang something other than a crappie i typically order ballheads by the hundred from Robert 1/16 oz and 1/32 oz the same with number 6 hooks number 4 hooks and larger spend to much time stuck in things other than the fish IMHO

On my pill head jigs, I use a #4 hook on the 1/16, 3/32, and 1/8 oz jigs. My 2" homemade plastics are pretty big, so I just run the hook along the top half of the plastic, rather than centering it, and taking up too much of the gap in that small #4 hook. On my tube jigs, I use a #4 hook (and a 1 1/2" tube) on the 1/16 oz jig, and a #2 hook (and a 2" tube) on both the 3/32 and 1/8 oz jigs.

I've found that when I run the hook along the top part of my plastics, it's easier to be torn after setting the hook. That makes for changing out you bait more often. If I run the hook through the center of the bait, it takes away from the gap, but never had a problem hooking the fish.
It's time to "Set The Hook"!!!!!!

#4, it's the best imo i've used a bunch of #2's on 1/8 oz, but won't anymore maybe #6 on a few 1/32 heads to use the extra small plastics that have come out

I've found that when I run the hook along the top part of my plastics, it's easier to be torn after setting the hook. That's not my experience at all. If your plastic tears before you catch at least 10 crappie, no matter where you're hooking it, then you're not using a hard enough plastic. Try some of Lane's baits. If I run the hook through the center of the bait, it takes away from the gap, but never had a problem hooking the fish. You must be using thin plastics, or a big hook, then. Not leaving enough of a hook gap exposed will cost lots of fish, especially bigger fish (as will soft plastic sliding down the hook and filling the gap). One of the things I've always liked about the sickle hooks is that they have a wider gap than most small hooks. And the #4 hook has pretty much the same gap as the #2 hook. If you want to hook a large crappie past the hard, toothy part of its mouth, that bigger gap is needed, and not filling it with too much plastic is something I had to learn in order to stop losing fish. To each his own, I guess. YMMV.

I do a lot like Pepop said, but on a day with little wind I like small jigs and the more wind you do need the bigger weights for the feel you need.
