I hate braid for that reason. I've lost several a-rigs to snapping braid when it's dug in.

I throw my big swimbaits on big game, 20lb or 25lb depending on the weight of the bait and depth I'm fishing. That stretch is very important to prevent cast offs IMO...
it's a sick feeling watching a $50+ bait go sailing out in front of you, especially if it could've been prevented.

Swimbaits Only.

Even with 25lb mono - keep it out of the timber.

Many people use braid with swimbaits some of the best swimbait guys I know use braid. I'm just not one of them. Let me say this. 90% of the people who email me about losing baits are losing baits by casting them off. 90% of those castoffs are by and large with braid. My best explanation for this is while braid works great for traditional size lures (1oz or less). When you start heaving 2 + oz baits the braid tends to dig into the spool and when you go to cast you end up casting it off. Thats my theory on braid breakoffs. If your going to use braid use 65lb or larger to help remedy the line digging. I find that larger diameter braid doesn't dig as bad/much as the smaller diameter braids.

Flouro. I'm the biggest fan of flourocarbon there is and being a spotted bass guy here in Georgia I live and die by my flouro. I just do not like it for swimbaits. Again alot of people use them but flouro is known for sub par knot strength and lack of stretch. Just not good ingredients for big $$ baits. Again alot of people use fluorocarbon for big swimbaits. If your confident in your line with 2oz + baits than I say go for it and give it a shot.

What I use and recommend is good ole 25lb mono. is 25lb overkill. You bet. You don't need 25lb line to reel in any fish. You need the 25lb to be able to take the brunt of the load when casting 2oz + baits. The stretch helps and the strength of the line helps with the torque that your putting your knot through. I use Trik Fish camo line.

http://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Trik_Fish_Original_Camo_Line_1_4lb_Spool/descpage-TFOC.html

You can use big game or p line I just prefer the Trik Fish brand, Cheap and bullet proof and I kinda like the camo line concealment aspect of it just my perference.

Hope this helps. BTW Please thank your wife for me and send me some pics of what some big Texas Swimbait bass look like. Tyler Woods on this thread here is a stud with my baits as of late. :)~

thanx

LOL You guys are a hoot. I can certainly understand the apprehension of not throwing the bait in the timber. HOnestly you need to throw it where the fish are for them to be effective. I carry 2 types of lure retrievers in my boat. One on a rope and one on a retractable pole for those pesky clients smile that like to fish for squirrels. I can't remember a time that i have lost a bait due to a snag. Now castoffs thats different. WHatever line you choose just be sure you check your knots. We throw these 2 oz + baits hard so your asking a knot to do a lot. Retying every hour on the hour isn't a bad habit to get into. When I throw my bigger 5oz to 8oz baits if I am putting in that amount of time with them to get bit I owe it to myself to make sure my knots are solid by retying every hour. 8am retie, 9am retie, 10am retie. Good habit to get into especially with all the big fish you guys have in Texas.

A lot of good advice there, as a member of Mike's pro staff I can tell you everything Triton Mike makes is quality and backed by Mike himself. You can e-mail him at any time and he will respond promtly.

Hey Mike remember team doo-dad? We had a lot of fun messin with the guys on wmi fishin' pages. Kept it a secret for a few weeks but the secret finally got out. But man those doo-dads were worth every penny. Won 10 grand and my first pro tourney with one.
Keep up the good work Mike!!!

Proud member of Team Doo-dad!
