This is exactly how I learned to "dead stick" a Rogue. When I first started out bass fishing in my late teens solo I was basically just listening to friends brag about what they had recently been catching fish in the winter on which they seemed to favor stick baits. I didn't own but one rod and reel combo and that was a Abu Garcia 5000C sitting on a 5.5 foot Heavy action pistol grip Berkley Lightning Rod. Definitely not the ideal set up for top water stick bait fishing. Back lash was almost guaranteed with every cast. I'd make my cast and then dig back lash for a few minutes. I caught a few nice fish while I was digging out the back lash. After I got the right tackle for the job I started just throwing my stick baits and never moving them from the spot in which they landed on the initial cast. I'd shake the rod tip to get a quiver out of the lure but that was about all I'd do this time of year. I got some pretty explosive strikes.........

Beautiful fish. 9lbs 2oz. Was she caught on the fluke or the rogue?

Thanks guys! She was caught on a white pearl super fluke. My dad caught a couple real nice fish that day on rogues as well. Here is the rest of the story......
On the boat, we only had a cheap plastic digital weigher and it showed that fish to weigh 8 pounds 12 ounces. We weren't sure if it was accurate or not. Our livewell in the boat wasn't working right so I realeased her. To see if out scale was right, we caught a smaller fish and took it to the marina for an accurate weight. We also weighed it with our scale that was on the boat. There was a significant difference in the marina's scale and ours. Ours was reading about 1 pound 12 ounces under the actual weight. If we took that logic and applied it to the big fish I caught, it would make her 10 lbs 8oz. I've always wondered how big she actually was though because I'm not confident that either weight was 100% accurate. I wanted to hear y'all's opinion.
The conditions that day and what we have right now aren't much different. There was rain the day before and a cold front had just come through. No snow like we got today but still somewhat similar.

That's an awesome story. I don;t know how many times I've heard stuff like this happening. But from the look of this picture I would say around 8 lbs. But it's hard to tell. It definitely helps that you're not holding the fish way out toward the camera lol

Seeing as how you don't have the fish pushed out away from your body and she still looks like a goodun, I would say about 9# too.

I'd say anywhere between 8.5-9.0 Great fish. Those flukes are amazing at fork aren't they?
