What do the inspections involve?.I have had my travel trailer inspected at least 4 times in 4 years and all they do are visual inspections, making sure lights work reflectors are in place and no brake parts missing and the tires are good.

So I have a 16-foot tandem trailer with 3,500 lb axles, do I need brakes on both axels, or just one? What is the gross weight it is registered at? You do the math, 2 3500 lb axles= 7k lbs. If you get pulled over with a trailer with 10k worth of axles that is registered with a gvwr of 3k lbs just so you don't have to have brakes, my guess is your about to get another ticket. When I have registered all of my trailers I was told didn't matter what you were going to put on it, the GVWR was the combination of all axle ratings. Inspect All Trailers, Semitrailers, Pole Trailers, or Mobile Homes Exceeding 4,500 Pounds Actual Gross Weight or Registered Weight For:

I didn't lie on my registration.

What I see as the funniest thing is all these trailer built on mobile home axles. Those axles are illegal except for use on mobile homes.

Yea...
Now I get to look into putting breaks on my flatbed. I believe it already has all the other requirements, but will probably have to work on some of the marker lights. When does this go into effect? Technically, you're supposed to have an inspection sticker now. Starting in March, I think you'll have to submit the inspection report to get your trailer registration, so whenever that expires. yep, nothing has changed there except for the fact that now you have to have it to renew the registration. I am thinking that enforcement was pretty lax.

Red, I don't think anybody ever answered your ???. It's 1 axle with brakes. I'm not sure at what point they require 2 axles with brakes. I wish 2 of my trailers were dual axle brakes.

It's nothing new. Trailers that are 4500lbs GVWR and above have always needed inspection.

What do they mean brake (system)? I haven't been able to find if it is just the electric brakes or do you have to have the break away system as well?
