Just ordered a pair of Carlisle USA Trails from Discount. I have heard some people say that Discount has been less than cooperative about ordering tires lately. I told them what I wanted and the dude said no problem but it will be 3 - 7 days. I said fine. Bias ply trailer tires seem to work best for me so that is what I am sticking with.

All I can say about this thread is DO NOT put car tires on a boat!!! I bought a boat from a rookie who did that and needless to say I was on the side of the road changing a blow out! I run a 5500lb Salt Water boat and you need a 6 ply minimum. Some of you fresh water guys get away with that stuff because you only pull your boat 20 miles and it weighs 2500 lbs. I pull my boat at times 500 miles round trip so a heavy duty tire is a must plus having a spare, a 4 way lug wrench and a hyd jack with you is also a must. My spare on the trailer is also a spare hub and bearing in case that goes as well. Never hurts to be prepared

I have trailer tires in stock no need to wait 3-7 days! If I don't have them I can still get them same day. Come see me at Firestone on University in Denton 10% over cost to any TFF member.

My 2c.

Read the tire threads at www.rv.net/forum/. LOT of discussion. Some of it gets real technical. If you're like me you'll be more confused when you're done reading than before you started. But you'll pick up an education.

Based on that reading plus my own, friends & neighbors experiences with China bombs, all my trailers have LT radials, and I have yet to have a problem with them. China bombs have been nothing but problems for me - no blowouts yet but several tread separations.

I think the LTs are made with better materials, or at least have additives to combat rot, &c. Our when-new OEM 5er tires were dry rotted and cracked so bad after 1-1/2 years I'd've been afraid to haul it down the driveway - pulled them off myself rather than risk hauling the trailer to Hibdon.

As was said in prior posts, regardless of what kind of tires you get, the two most important factors are to make sure they're rated for more weight than what they'll carry and maintain the air pressure.

China bombs are cheap, you can get them for under $100. LTs will probly cost you $250 or more.

I had Marathon on my dual axle trailer pulling my ZX225 for 8 years with no real problems, but came time to replace when Discount Tire wouldn't work on them due to the age. I had Discount Tires order me a set of Maxxis, and I have had no problems whatsoever and have no issue running 75 mph for extended periods. Had them now for 2 years. Sits in storage for about 4 months out of the year in the winter, and other than a slight loss in pressure, no issues.

P I was coming home from Sam Rayburn today and noticed my truck and trailer were shaking bad. I had to drive 45mph for 40 miles to get home. Turns out one of the tires had a hump about 6" long on the sidewall. The other was going to be that way soon. And my spare was made in 1996! Well, I got a new pair of shoes for the Triton today. Kinda scary to think I was pretty close to a blowout.

They put on some Hercules trailer tires 205/75/14's load range C. We'll see how they do! $68 per tire.

https://www.tirerack.com/images/tires/goodyear/Marathon_Special_Trailer_Applications.pdf

The above is the Marathon S/T tire, which says to keep their tire at 60psi if you drive between 65-75psi, which we all do.
I've had my Marathon's at 60psi for the last three years with no problems.

Boat trailer tires are 6 ply - spend the extra cash and run the Goodyear they will last longer and not blow out like a car tire that is 4 ply or the china stuff.

Jesus first - then the rest will fall into place.

Jacob645, you were luckier than I was, had one blow out 2 weeks ago Saturday. I had not warning gust a boom and a roar. Getting new ones this week. Still not sure what brand.
