I caught my own crawfish. Buying them would be much easier if I knew where to get them though.

Crawfish are all in this creek. It's a natural bait for these guys. Just look around at the banks, you can see their holes everywhere.

Thanks for advice on WMA rules!! Can anyone tell me how to search for information in a thread. I can't seem to figure it out. Never fished for crappie specifically in the creek and I'm sure its been talked about in the past. Looking for pointers and don't want to bring up an old topic again. Any advice would be appreciated

Yota, I catch all my crappie using a jig. So, not much help from my end.

Newman's yesterday.....Met a TFF member there by chance, Lottfisher.

Talked for a few minutes and he save me some time walking. Thanks for the help!

Anyway, 36 and drizzle. I only fished two hours in the afternoon. Ended up with three; two males and one female, full of eggs. Lost two others. Water getting clearer but still flowing. Target deeper holes and moving water. After Lottfisher left, no one was there but me. Peaceful.

So I've been down to Newmans. And I've seen a few with fish and more without. I've used the plastic jigs to no avail. What I have noticed is that some people reel their jigs real fast while others just bounce the jig slowly in one spot. I usually reel in my jig fairly quickly, but felt maybe I'm not doing this right. I had two hits while I bounced my jig around between some branches but they jumped off my hook quick. What am I doing wrong?

Most of the white bass are deep and lethargic at this time. If you throw the jig upstream and let it float down you will need to speed up the retrieve to keep the line tight. I was actually throwing downstream and reeling it in at an extremely slow pace the last time out. Getting the weight of jig and retrieve rate to where the jig will stay just off the bottom is the key to keeping it in their strike zone. 1/32 ounce or 1/16 ounce jigs are what I have been using. You just have to find a place without hangs that the fish are holding. You will likely lose a couple of jigs before you find the right spot. Use a single jig with a chartreuse curly tail.

Hey y'all, newly registered to the forum. A buddy and I hit Newman's this morning. We hung 27 between the two of us. Three were the biggest females I've seen this run, pushing 16 inches if not bigger. I can't believe they were moving at all as cold as it was. Thermometer showed 34 when we got there. It was actually sleeting at one point! A BUNCH of fish holding in the deepest holes.

Thanks for the responses! I'm going to try again this weekend. Hopefully I can come back with something. I'm glad to hear their biting in cold weather too. That was another question I had. I've been told before that it's not worth fishing in freezing temperatures. Obviously, thats not the case here.

Welcome to the forum! Congrats on the catch. Guess you didn't have to worry about putting them on ice. smile

Looks like stormy weather predicted for the coming weekend. Might kill the creek fishing for the next few weeks. frown

Better get them while you can.
