Yup, the Sabinal is an absolute gem. I've fished rivers all over the country and its probably my favorite from early Spring into Winter. If you love sunfish, you will love this river. If you love fishing from a small Jon Boat or canoe or kayak, you will love this river. I have been hesitent to mention it before becuase it can't handle a lot of pressure like larger systems (like the Guad or the Brazos) can handle. But what it does do, it does better than anything else. If you catch a Longear there in their prime colors, you'd think you would have discovered a new species of sunfish. The Redbreasts, Bluegills and Guad Bass come from out of those grass beds and other ambush spots from 6' deep to smash a bait on the surface sometimes. And the scenery is unbelievable. The Sabinal is that one toy you don't want your younger siblings/cousins to play with for fear they would break it. Glad you guys got a chance to fish it.

Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless His Holy Name!

There will be trout to catch there up until late March. hooked They will have lots of places to hide from anglers. hide2 River is spread out. I would imagine that warmer water temperatures will kill the ones that survive the anglers hooks as we get into the warmer months. hmmm As for fly fishing it looks like it would be a super place to fly fish. The Sunfish bite is pretty good during the warmer months. clap Heck Mike caught about five sunnies waiting for the stocking truck to arrive. One more thing. You need to eat at the Lost Maples Cafe in Utopia. food Awesome place. thumb

Jeff fished there this past Saturday and got his limit in 3 hours. He said he saw lots of trout over by the spill way and by a launch. Getting the itch to go after em one more time. May just head up there this coming weekend.

You can fish that river another couple of weeks and still have a chance on getting a limit. coolio However with these warmer temperatures coming in all of those fish will be dying off. eeks Great you got a late season limit. Good job. cheers

Nice trout guys! You guys have made the trout circuit with some great results. That area has some beautiful scenery! Also that Lost Maples Restaurant sounds like an awesome place to eat. Got to love that Hill Country fishing.

Side Note: How far from Hwy 90 is Utopia. I see where the Sabinal River crosses Hwy 90 just outside of Uvalde. Have you fished that part?
