I don't see the population growth in Texas slowing down any time soon and I don't really think the answer will be in more surface water.
We need to look toward the ocean.
Desalination technology will need to improve and widespread adoption will drive the cost down.
We may have to accept the fact that water may not be as cheap as we would like.

Our state needs a water plan that includes various forms of water sources along with a grid of pipelines for distribution.
Fortunately most of the large population centers are low enough in elevation where water distribution would be easier.

The vast majority of water is for commercial use and perhaps we need to look at how that water is sourced, used, and disposed of. We need to look at expanding the use of reclaimed water for certain purposes.

I think this problem is gonna be with us a long time. Its not just that we are in a
drought, its that our population has increased alot and we still have the same number of reservoirs
as we did 20 yrs ago.

I think low water levels are the new norm.

Water is the new oil.

I also live in CO and many of the lakes in the eastern part of the state went dry yrs ago
and may never re-fill.

Like Cegrace says, we need a pipeline, better get on it now cause things aren't getting any better. Also need to find a cheap way to use seawater.

Back in the 70s and 80s my Dad was always telling me the biggest problem for texas in the future was going to be fresh water. Back then I thought that was crazy. But I nowI think its a bigger problem then most people realize. If this drought continues another yr I bet large cities like Dallas ft worth will have to consider not issues building permits to slow growth , which in turn would slow economy , after all you cant keep building and growing if you cant supply water . noidea
