I just book my first trip ever to Toledo Bend. Every year my buddies and I go to a new lake and cross one off the bucket list. Last year was Rayburn, the year before that Caddo. I am looking for any tips/advice that you guys/gals might have. Please keep on mind that we are not Tournament fisherman so I am not just digging for info to make some money. I have never been to lake so I'm just looking for some friendly advice. If I was going to have time to scout the lake and learn the ropes I wouldn't bother everyone. We will only be there for a few days and not sure if/when we will get the chance to go again. We are staying on the water on the north end of the lake. From the looks of the map, just east of Center Tx. From all of the stories I here, Toledo is a Great Lake, but a big one. I can't describe how excited I am. Any tips are appreciated. also, I'll be there the second week on March.

Again I'm not a pot licker looking to steal anyone's honey hole. Just looking for advice.Don't grill me too hard 😊 thanks a lot guys

During the second week of March, you ought to be able to find fish just about anywhere. I've never been on that end of the lake, but my best guess is to find hydrilla/lily pads in the "back" of the creeks. Watermelon red wacky worm along the edges of the creeks.

Not much grass up on that end but plenty of hyacinth and giant salvania. Fish will be shallow, chatterbaits, senkos, tx rigs along shallow cover where the floating stuff isn't too bad

I've always fished the South end. Hausen, White Oak and Indian Mounds to name a few. Red bug trick worms on a T-rig.

Does the southern end of the lake 'fish' better than the northern end?
Broad question, I understand, just asking for an opinion...

IMO yes. Alot more "good grass" down south. Areas like 1215/blue lake, Indian Mounds, Housen, and 6 mile are always chock full of grass. The water is much clearer on the southern end of the lake as well. North end that time of year is usually stained to chocolate milk.

I have done best on wacky rigs and weightless senkos in a variety of watermelon colors, as well as Tx rig baby brush hogs. Always have a red trap tied on as well that time of year.

For a new guy, try to run the Louisiana boat lanes vs the Texas lanes whenever you get the chance. The Texas lanes are only marked by single buoys....Louisiana ones have very frequent markers on both sides of the lanes that form a road. You can't mess up in a Louisiana boat lane unless you get on that Louisiana moonshine.

Just as many tournaments won above the bridge versus below. It comes down to your style of fishing. North generally fishes more shallow

Be sure to wash the boat and trailer down after being on TB. You don't want to take any of that giant salvania back home with you.

T-rig brush hog has worked well for me up north, water will be stained to muddy that time of year, but the fish are there for sure!

Again, being somebody that has never fished the lake, what kind of cover can I expect to be throwing at? I'm trying to picture the lake in my head.
