In my opinion, any post about fish caught that does not include such basic information as the lake being fished, type of bait used, depth found and general locations found, such as brush piles, bridges, shallow, etc. is just a post by somebody wanting to brag about themselves.

So, in my opinion, if you want to post to brag about how great a fisherman you are, then other members have the right to ask you to provide basic information about the lake being fished, the type of bait used, etc., to back up your brag.

I don't expect you to agree with me about this. But I would hope you will appreciate that other members have the right to ask questions about lake and fishing conditions when somebody makes a post to brag about how great a fisherman they are without providing this information.

The poster doesn't have to respond to those requests for more information but they should understand how that makes them look in the eyes of other members when they don't respond with basic fishing information about their catch.

Agree or disagree respectfully as I do see your point, and it's ok too if that's how you see it.

I view TFF as a great place to READ, and along the way, we all learn. I've learned a great deal over the years. There are many types of posts and many different sections within TFF. Crappie section is mainly in regard to anything related to crappie fishing, NOT just report.

As you can see, I did provide my lake and lure used etc., I do, however, read other posts from time to time that do not provide location, and I am ok with that as well. I would rather see someone's catches to fire me up to get out there to hunt. In my defense, I fish every chance I get over the years so I have lots of lakes and locations, but not everyone has many choices, thus he wishes not to share.

By asking a question in which one knows (or can assume) that the original poster wishes not to share just to make him look bad isn't me, that's all. Surely anyone has the right to ask, and anyone has the right to answer(or not), but I don't view that the unanswered questions make that person a bad person. Maybe, he is happy with what he caught and wishes to share (or brag), but he doesn't know many spots thus, such lake/spot/honey hole is golden to him.

Here is another scenario I hope you can understand. Let just assume a friend invited me to fish at his secret lake. He asked me not to tell anyone where (meaning lake and location), but he also would like to see it posted. After a successful trip, are we to the point that if I would post such trip without lake/location, then I am a bad person? Are we to NOT post because we are subject to be judged?

I guess my view is this: If someone post catches just to brag, at least he has the right to brag since I am not catching any. Instead of the glass 1/2 empty, I'd be happy for him, and it pushes me to get out there somewhere and hunt. End result, I will be a better angler due to more time on the water....

Yes Sir, you did provide the information.

And yes, many subjects are covered in the crappie section other than reports of crappie caught. And many of them name the lake or ask questions about lakes or techniques to catch crappie.

My response was strictly to your comment that people should not be naive and request lake information if the poster does not provide it. That is why my quote of your comment was strictly on that part of your post.

As to your hypothetical question, I would not post about the trip in the forum if I was restricted from providing adequate information to the other forum members. I would simply tell my friend I could not post about the trip since he did not want the location nor details mentioned.

Not because I fear being judged by other members because I don't. It would be how I would judge myself if I did it that would prevent me from making the post. I would see myself as doing meaningless bragging so everybody could see what a great fisherman I consider myself to be.

And again, this is not meant toward your posts, since as you stated, you did provide helpful information in your post, including lake.

As you stated anybody has the right to make bragging posts to brag about how great they think they are at fishing if that is what they want to do.

But I still believe other members have the right to call them out for their bragging if they do not provide useful information with their bragging.

These members may do it in a gentle manner such as asking "what lake" or "what jig or jig color", "what depth caught", etc. or point out in other ways all the information that was left out of the post.

I have seen some do it in a more harsh manner by questioning why the initial post was made in the post.

I am not telling anybody not to post, even if they just post to brag about themselves.

I am simply stating that other members should not be condemned as being naive or anything else when they ask pertinent questions of those who make posts without providing lake or other useful information to go with their pictures.

Im with CV,If poster decides to keep the lake to them self thats fine.seeing a mess of crappie motivates me to drag my boat out in this freezing weather and hunt them down.dont get me wrong I love a good detailed report just as much as the next guy,but even if they give exact lake, jig, pattern and coordinates doesnt mean that I can catch those crappie, most likely they will be wanting something totally different than before.

so keep the motivation coming guys popcorn2

Sorry to hear that. i hate drunken drivers..

To the point, I think both of you are right. It's just you need to be sincere when presenting your opinion or view. Respect should be shown from both end.

ex)
case 1) A: report with no info.
B: what lake,bait,depth, etc?
A or whoever: do your own homework (WRONG)

case 2) A: report with no info.
B: thanks for nothing that offers no benefit! (WRONG)

case 3) A: report with no info.
B: what lake, bait, depth?
A: Sorry, can't do because.....
B: You are not friendly nor a decent human! (Wrong)

case goes on and on... NO need to be over sensitive. no need to offend anyone. No need to be a cry baby. it's just damn fishing...

couldn't agree more. That's part of the sport I love, finding a pattern yourself.

I agree, I would really like to see you posting more like you used to. I learned allot from reading your posts back in the day. When I first started coming to the Crappie forum I knew very little about catching crappie with a jig because I was a bass fisherman that just crappie fished a few time each winter. CV sent me his phone number one cold rainy Saturday and told me to call him. For an hour he gave me the Bridge Fishing 101 course over the phone. That changed the way I fish bridges and jigs, and started catching them consistently with jigs. although Im not a fan of fishing bridges, I would rather catch them anywhere else. You just keep posting CV, this forum is in need of some real crappie reports and HOW TOO posts like used to be on here all the time before it was taken over by BS.
