I prefer BPS for the selection over Academy, but their prices are just outrageous compared to Academy or Tackle Warehouse.

The Academy that I go to the most is off Forest and 75, their fishing department has went down hill. They have some descent reels, some better than walmart selection on tackle but nothing that sets them apart and the rod selection over there is an absolute joke. They used to carry good rods, but they haven't in quite some time.

BPS - of the two in D/FW, Grapevine is way better than Garland. Has anyone looked at the rod selection in Garland lately? Horrible - They have good reel selection and both have better tackle selection than Academy, but of course most everything is higher. BPS used to be my favorite place to go, the one in Grapevine, but I don't go over there that much anymore, if I need something I usually order it from TW or buy it from one of the small places around Lake Fork when I'm out there. BPS is way more interested in selling clothes than hard to find or premium bass fishing equipment, and Academy has become a walmart type sporting goods store.

A couple of years ago I would've said Academy but Academy ain't what it used to be. Pretty soon it will just be a clothing store. I order online for most things these days from Tackle Warehouse. Carlos Rivera's River-A-Tackle is another good source and he's TFFer.

Yep. Need to add a third choice.... TACKLE WAREHOUSE anyone?

Better prices, no tax, and just easier. Has EVERYTHING. not just lower end reels and house brand baits that are made of PVC instead of soft rubber. Lol. If it XPS on it, just spend a few bucks more and get "The Real Thing"!

Bass pro has a better selection. Academy is cheaper but I seem to always end up at BassPro. Tackle warehouse is nice if I plan in advance. Still I like the xps reels and bass pro rods. Those are good deals.

I voted BPS but I only fish Falcon Lake in Texas and 100% of everything I buy for fishing is bought at Falcon Lake Tackle. They have everything I need for that lake plus they always treat every customer great. On big things like a trolling motor they match BPS pricing. If you break down they make it a point to do what it takes to help in the repair. In my opinion they are the best small tackle store I have ever been too, plus they have the best fishing report ever written for any lake. smile

Academy never seems to keep things in stock. They try to push the h20 brand which I can't stand. I go to Houston every year for my yearly checkup and hit up the Bass Pro there.

Academy because Senkos @ $5.99 versus $7.49 at tackle ware house. I haven't set foot in BPS in years.

If Academy carries a product I like, I rarely find anyone (BPS, Cabelas, Insert any other local tackle company) with cheaper prices..............as a general rule. There are a few exceptions on a small variety of items.

If I need something that Academy doesn't carry, I try to use an APT / Fun-N-Sun or similar local establishment first before BPS or Cabelas....................and I work 2 miles from the BPS in Grapevine.

It's fun to walk around and browse as a time killer at lunch from time to time.
