Guess this is the place for this question. I'm a lowrance fan but always had their lesser units and just used it for depth. i'm looking to get a better unit that can accurately spot bait school and fish schools while hunting down white and striped bass. any suggestions?

I'm looking at an Elite-7x HDI because I do not need the chartplotter and wanting to pay between $300 - $700. will this do the job?

I have 1 question about the Elite 7 units. I have heard the Elite 7 had problems with being too slow to refresh the maps when running over certain speeds. I bought one for the bow since I will only be trolling using that one. Do the new chirp models address this issue or do they still have the same problem? I would like another one for the console, but if the unit is too slow to load the maps, what would be the point in getting one?

It is a fantastic unit on the bow/trolling motor. It works well on the console as well but yes you are correct about slow to update on charts. It is workable if you have a good sense of judgement meaning compensate as the boat is turning in association to where the waypoint is at.

Chirp has the same processor as the non chirp. I recommend bumping up to HDS on the console and getting the point 1 antenna.

Totally agree with David a SUAF. But, when you move up to the HDS you still need to add a Point1 antenna to speed up the graph display. Same you would have to do with HB only they call it something different.
I've had both and hated them both for that very reason. Added the newer antenna and am now a happy camper!

What does adding that antena do?

I have a couple of questions. I just bought an HDS-8 with structure scan and just got it installed into the boat. In reading on here I decided to order the Point 1 and it is on the way. What I am trying to figure out now is what software I need. I am in NW Oklahoma and will be fishing area lakes for now. I want to have what I need and not buy something I really don't need. Also, this boat had a Elite-5 fishfinder on it when I bought it. I want to move it to the front of the boat and am wondering if it can be tied in with the HDS-8 or not. The transponder for the Elite-5 is epoxied to the bottom of the back of the boat. If I try to use that transponder will the two interfere with each other or do I need to move it to the front to my trolling motor? Thanks.

This is my first attempt to upload photos so hopefully it works. Anyway, check out the images below and see if anyone can help. I have an elite 7 hdi and while sitting still I get long arches on DSI and Sonar. Moving I get millions of dots. You can see how the transducer is mounted on one of the images. Can anyone help?!?!?

got a dumb question. i have the Mark 5x and elite 5DSi. when i am trying to fish a brush pile, i have it marked on my gps, and then i find it using the DSI. do i throw my marking buoy right on top of my transducer when the brushpile pops up on the screen?

is the picture on the screen directly below the transducer?
