Got one last night around 6:45 that was in the 4.5 -5 lb. range, across from The Cellar, near Smith Landing. Very healthy specimen, fat belly starting to swell female. She is still there. Hey I was gonna go check out that canal yesterday but does any of the patrons or businesses mess with you about being down there fishing? I wanted to go around 5:00 but was afraid of getting run off by someone and I don't have a latern or anything to fish after dark.

Caught these two last night(Tuesday), between 10:30-11:00 PM in the Mandalay canal near Smith Landing: 1/32 nd. oz. unpainted jig head, chartreuse/gold metal flake hollow body crappie jig, 6 lb. test, UL rod, Quantum Optix 10 reel. This little front coming in will probably slow em down for a bit, but won't shut them down completely, I don't think. These are by far the smallest ones i have caught out there in the last 2-3 wks. Hotrod , thanks again for the info on the retrieve speed.
Yes, I do get weeds on the crank, but the lipless one, I can usually make a quick jerk and 50% of the time it comes off and I finish my retrieve. Down by the cement dam/bride to the west, is deep enough that I actually cast, wait 6 seconds and then medium retrieve it back.
I know the spot you were in and yes that area is shallow and weedy, I usually switch to a spinner bait or road runner.
With the water so cold, I probably need to find a slower presentation.

P.S. Please if you go to northlake, be respectful that they are allowing us to fish. A few months ago I saw two guys jump the curb, drive over the grass and park their truck next to the lake so they could unload their kayaks.

Yeah I live right up the street and drove by that day and saw the truck parked right at the bank. If Northlake cops see it they'll put a stop to that real quick. The cops have driven down and checked on me a few times but they're all cool as long as your being respectful. I just hope everyone is practicing catch-&-release so that it remains a fun place to fish for us locals. Are you talkin about the dam that is basically right there close to the actual Northlake building or the dam that MacArthur kinda crosses over top of?

Do you fish the main pond area like on the side where the basketball court is or do you fish the other side of road like on the side where the McDonalds is?

I was talking about the DAM in the middle, that you can easily walk over. Casting to the east side towards lake.
West of that dam, it gets shallow and weedy, harder to run a spinner or crankbait, I switched to a weedless rigged worm and slowly hop it and get them right in the weeds. So far fish have been slightly bigger on the main lake side.
I have also had the police come down and chat, asked me if the fish were biting a few times. They are nice, just be respectful and don't trash the place, park at the far end, walk down without cutting thru the tennis courts etc.
I have seen the police ticket in that lot, on a Sat, when it was full and people parked creatively.
-good luck

Do you fish the main pond area like on the side where the basketball court is or do you fish the other side of road like on the side where the McDonalds is? I fish both sides but the side near the basketball court has been producing better lately. The water on the side with the basketball court has better clarity so they eat the swimjig better. I do better on the McDonalds side with small white/chart spinnerbaits and chatterbaits because the water is dirtier. If the water is dirty in the upper pool I'll throw a spinner bait. Like today, with all this rain, the waterfall into the basketball side pool will be flowing really well so I'll slow roll a spinnerbait.

10:45 tonight(Monday). I guessed 2.5, but digital scale the gent that took the pic had on him said 3.08. Either way, I'll take it! She was full of eggs, so she went back into the water post haste. The two men that were also fishing there, I did not get their names, the gentleman who took my pic, caught one also just before I did. I did not get a good look at his. but looked about the same size as mine, maybe bigger. Sorry I did not get their names. Two nice guys, bass fishing.

I wanted to say thank you to whoever it was using the Jackall Binsky. I found your lure and can't wait to throw it. Also, a popper/torpedo style bait shouldn't be fished on 4-6 lb line, that's why you lost it. Try something in the 12 lb and up range. I looked it up on the Tackle Warehouse website and that lure retails for $14.99. Thanks again!!!

Those weren't mine, and the guys that probably lost them were using bonafide bass gear, heavy line, and baitcasting equipment. I don't own any of that stuff. Too pricey for my blood. They probably still trying to figure out where that gear went! LOL

That's mine! That's mine! No, I am just kidding. But Jackall lures are very good, and pricy. I wanted to say thank you to whoever it was using the Jackell Binsky.
