I don't feel it physically when using a faster retrieve reel on deep cranks. If anything it makes the baits roll and not run as effectively as I want.

Interesting discussion........the one thing I've noticed in the reel market is the disappearance of the 3.8:1 cranking reel. I own a Quantum Crankin' Reel (3.8:1 ratio) that was built in the early 90's, it is based on the old 1310 MG platform. I threw big deep cranks for years with a 5.4:1 reel and about 30 minutes of that was all I could stand. With the 3.8:1 reel I could stay at it all day. The difference in feel of these two ratios is like the difference in driving your vehicle with and without power steering......I think the biggest draw back and probably the reason this ratio went away is because you really have to reel fast at first it to get the lure down............... Quantum also used to make a 4.4-1 gear ratio that is no longer made either and it was one of the models made in Japan back then. It would work well for deep divers. I still have a couple of them around.

I use two silver 5500's......backed with braid and 50-65 yards of fluoro or mono.......big handles and handle grips.....pretty effortless.

I have one of the Shimano 3.8:1. CU200B38 Can crank DD22, 10XD and 6th Sense Crush 500 all day. I have arthritis in my hands. It does take awhile to Reel them in if you really get out there. You can still find them.

I have one, they are really nice! But, I still prefer the Chronarch 100D5.
