Nice! Bladed jigs shine around scattered grass. Kind of like the Trap bite. It snags a little in the grass and you rip it free. The bite comes as it breaks free.
Had a bass take one away from me using 50# Power Pro on Camelot Bell. Kind of a freak thing but it happened. Made up for it after lunch though. Caught a 15.00 from the same area!!

Maybe I fish it too fast because I have thrown it quite a bit and have had zero bites on it. I do catch stumps with it. Rookie!

Thanks, Ken. I'm figuring that out now.
The Bell has some lunkers in it, I hear. Congrats on the 15 pounder.

I've never thrown one, sounds like a good nightfishing bait, looks like I'll have to get on this wagon

Great post Andrew G. Enough detail to get a person thinking about trying out chatter baits. The information you provide on rod/reel/line lure weight color and trailer selection is great. Details on how to fish the bait are just what a beginner needs to know. Your post probably sold a lot of folks on chatter baits. Thanks for the info.

Great article. I have one question. In my limited time fishing I have found the Chatterbait (especially on Fork) to really be productive pre spawn and fall but for some reason as the post spawn and summer get here I don't seem to be as productive with it as just a regular spinnerbait. Is it just me or is there some reason for this?

perhaps pattern you're fishing is more conducive to spinnerbait bite, or weather pattern, or even pattern of baits you own. Do you have a different or more versatile spinner collection? Is the weather much calmer or windier in those seasons typically where you fish? Are you finding the fish holding in thicker timber/brush or grass where you are more effectively covering water with the spinner?
You'd really have to identify for yourself what difference/issue is present. The bait itself honestly remains as lethal and effective year round, though pattern and depth and retrieve can all vary greatly.

Mulholland, I think you hit the nail on the head regarding my question. Back when I was fishing all of the time, keeping fishing logs, studying maps etc. I would have come to some conclusion's and opinion's for the question I was asking. Now that I have limited time to fish I just go out and use what experience I have gained over the years and have certain technique's that I prefer to fish which probably limits me but is the way I prefer to fish these days. I do think I will keep one handy and start using it more during the year because I have definitely caught a lot of good fish on them in the past and have a blast fishing them. Thanks for your response.

That was a great article by Andrew. I'd like to throw my .02 in there and say I try to avoid fishing a bladed bait with braid. In my experience I end up missing a lot of fish because of the stretch factor, even when using a trailer hook. Not sure if anyone has had the same problem but thought I'd throw it out there.

Braid is the only line I throw a chatterbait on. I used to have this problem when I threw chatterbaits on a dobyns 735 (mag heavy) but I now use a 733 (med heavy) and never miss them anymore. No need for a trailer hook on a chatterbait in my opinion. If they are short striking, change trailers
