We were on Ft. Phantom on a really windy day in March and decided to run up the lake just as another boat came by headed in the same direction. I decided to drop in behind him and let them break the wind and waves and run in their smooth wake. Well the guy, for whatever reason, just stops in the middle of the lake and needless to say I ran right up behind them. I jerked the wheel to the right just as my bow goes over the right rear of his boat!!! I was waiting for the huge slam I knew was going to happen when my lower unit would hit his boat; but it never came. I don't know how but I completely missed his boat!!! Those guys were soaked from my wake and the hard turn right over his rear deck, scared, and freaking out; but unharmed!!

I have never run down the lake right behind another boat since. The Lord was watching over them and us that day!

I'll throw in one for my brother. We were fishing Lydia Ann channel when we noticed a big squall line coming in from the SE. We decided to head in to Port Aransas harbor and had just about got to the sunken wreck when the motor quit. We tried the trolling motor but it gave up after 10 minutes. Of course we're right in the middle of the channel and here comes a barge from the north.

It got pretty interesting and we found out the paddle didn't move us very fast when here comes the lighthouse guy. He stops and tows us back to the harbor in the nick of time.

Even though we had a half tank of gas left it was because the gauge had stuck. We filled up and the motor started right up.

I believe it was around 84-85, my partner and I were way back in Coffee creek on Fork one night and
because someone miscalculated we ran out of beer,took us forever to get to the truck where the backups were
OMG I thought we were doomed

Several years ago in the Spring I was at the Lake Park boat ramp. A storm was coming my way and I decided to wait it out before putting the boat in the water. Soon the storm was overhead and here comes this guy and puts his boat in the water. Lightning was striking all around. I spoke to him and warned him about the lightning. He said it was ok since he was not going far. I watched him motoring across the lake with lightning striking everywhere. He must have made his destination, because I never heard about lightning striking anyone on the news. The guy just was not thinking properly and was very lucky.
It is common to see people stay out on the water and keep fishing when a storm nears. Not too smart in my opinion.

When I was sitting up straight and the boat was loaded properly, it would track straight ahead whether or not I was holding the stick.....but yes, that was rather stupid of me.

And graphite rods make pretty good lightning rods, too...even better than graphite club shafts on a golf course, because they're so much longer. No law against stupidity, though. I'm living proof.

I had a Skeeter Metro years back with a 65 Johnson, you had to hold the stick at all times...

Tried to beat a storm in on Rayburn last year. Got hit by 60 mph winds while running back. Thought it was over for me.

The name is very familiar, but I don't remember him. Sorry.

Scary stuff.

We were on Grapevine in a 17' Bass Tracker once when a storm rolled in. Monster rollers sent us right into the rocks. Next thing I knew there was a big a$$ cruiser getting blown right at us, motor first. Don't know how he lost control really but he was gunning the engine all it had. Finally yanked my boat free right before he crashed into the rocks. His prop would've chewed my little boat up and me if I was in the drivers seat.

Mine still gives me chills. I was taking my boat out with my oldest son, I want to say 6 at the time and in a full car seat. I get to a popular boat ramp and do my thing get the boat in the water and ready to take it off the trailer. As I step out of the truck and take a couple of steps I see my truck starting to slide down the ramp with my son buckled in, mind you truck is in Park with E-brake engaged. I run into the truck slam brakes and just sit there for a second. Some people come over un-hitch the boat, I put truck into 4 wheel drive and press-on.
Two lessons I learned- one I now always make my kids get out of the truck during load/unloading/ two and this what caused me to slip was the alge from the brackish water so now I always give a long look at the ramp before launching.

My brother, his girlfriend and a buddy were camping in Burnet County park - Lake Buchannan on good Friday once. We decided to pack it up and head to the island when a large extended family set up next to us. We woke to 50 mph south winds and had to make it back to the north shore in my 18' Laser. In hindsight we should have just rode it out on the island. I rode 3 waves the mile or so back to the park. I figured the swells on the north side at 5-6'. We made it and I put the boat on the beach. We watched a fairly large boat with a full windshield totally disappear from view between the swells.

That explains all the dented headed salmon in six Mile Creek!

Club fishing with a member who bought his first boat. He knew nothing about boating and I found this out after launching and starting our run up Falcon Lake early morning before sunrise WOT following his boss. At WOT with a graph the size of a tv in front of his face, one of the post that seperates US and Mexico went by on his side and missed that boat by 6 inches if that. He didn't see it. Got to where we were going to fish (thank God) and his boss shut down. I hit him and yelled "he stopped, he stopped" and the next thing I knew we were in a hard left turn. I looked up only to see a grove of trees coming right at us. I hit him again and yelled "tree's, tree's". We got stopped and I said you didn't any part of that ride did you? He said I can't see at night. Never again, I take my boat and I fish alone now. I know too many people that run WOT and don't give a %*&$ about the depth, stumps, or rocks. Thank the good Lord above that I'm still alive and getting a line wet. Oh, I had to show him how to get his boat back on the trailer.
