You should get with the President of the East Texas Fly Fishers and see if he can help you set something up!



I think the Texas Council could organize a number of sessions to help make this happen at least in the DFW area.
I just added it to the agenda for our next board meeting.

I will reach out to Fred Dupre. Fred is in the fly tying group and knows first hand about the program. I do know the IFFF is putting more effort into tying and this new level of grading and teaching . Agree we should set up some testing times and sites.

Another opportunity to learn such some of the skills necessary to be awarded the Bronze Level certificate will be at the North Toledo Bend Rendezvous, Oct. 30-Nov.1 at North Toledo Bend State Park in Zwolle, LA (that's just across Toledo Bend - barely over the Texas border: http://pages.suddenlink.net/w/Rendez/indexR.html

This, the original tying "Rendezvous", is the oldest and one of the largest "pure tying events" in South and has been held by folks in Texas and Louisiana (and beyond) for some 27 years!

One of the regular tyers at this event will be Fred Hannie, who just this month will be teaching a course on the Bronze Skills at the Gulf Coast Fly Fair in Ocean Springs, MS on Sept.18th: http://gulfcoastifff.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html This will only be the second time that this Bronze Level Tying Course will have been offered, with the first course being last month at the IFFF's 50th Anniversary Fly Fair in Bend, Oregon.

The North Toledo Bend Rendezvous is jointly sponsored by the Texas and Gulf Coast Councils (GCC) of the International Federation of Fly Fishers (IFFF) http://www.fedflyfishers.org/ and is hosted by the Piney Woods Fly Fishers, http://www.pwff.org/ This is at gathering of tyers that is the grand-daddy of such tying gatherings in our part of the world, and has spawned such gatherings as the Red River Rendezvous and the Caddo Conclave, which are two other "local" Federation club sponsored tying events, where you can spend a few days sitting down with some of the best tyers in this region and work on your tying skills or just hang around with many of the regions very best tyers...

So, come on over to the GCC Fly Fair, the North Toledo Bend Rendezvous, the Red River Rendezvous, and/or the Caddo Conclave and have a marvelous time tying with the "best tyers in Texas, and beyond!
