My buddy borrowed my boat and returned it with an Elite 5 HDI unit on it. I have the manual, but it's not clear or doesn't say anything about the following and I didn't find anything in these 23 pages of good info, so...
1. The attachment to the mount doesn't seem very secure. Is it supposed to just slip on and off or should there be a more positive lock?
2. Do the 2D sonar and the downscan use the same transducer?
3. Can I use my old Lowrance enhanced lake maps (the free ones they used to put on the website for download, worked in my LMS 332C)?
4. Can I add sidescan to this unit?

got a dumb question. i have the Mark 5x and elite 5DSi. when i am trying to fish a brush pile, i have it marked on my gps, and then i find it using the DSI. do i throw my marking buoy right on top of my transducer when the brushpile pops up on the screen?
is the picture on the screen directly below the transducer? The image is below the transducer yes. Toss the marker up wind and head back to the marker to find the structure. Once the structure appears on the display look at your marker in association to the structure to give you the where about of the structure to the marker.

4. Can I add sidescan to this unit? The unit should click to the mount. The elite can only accept the premium map card. try the free one you have. It may work fine as it may be lesser than the premium. Elites can not be connected to structurescan for side image.

Does the 2d and downscan use the same transducer? I do know they changed it out from the one that the 332C used.

If you have an HDI skimmer transducer, yes, they are combined in the same transducer. Watch throwing that marker directly on your structure. It could become entangled, or worse, spook the fish off the structure. I try to position it a few feet off the structure I want to fish.

Hi Guys, I don't know if this was covered before but I recently started recording what I thought was the side scan. When I go to play it back all i see is 2d sonar. Can anybody give me a quick lesson? Thanks!

nevermind...found it on like page 18 or so. This thread could be sold for money man! Thanks !!! For anybody else, you have to press menu and change the "view" from primary to down or side.

Hds 10 gen 2 question.
My unit seems to be stuck on a screen saver page that says Hds with lowrance under neath it.
I have tried the soft and hard reset to no avail.
It is a brand new unit. Any suggestions?

If you have any SD cards installed then remove them and try power-cycling the unit. You might also check to ensure that it is getting adequate power. Try hooking the unit directly to the battery without going through any of the boats existing wiring.

JA,
If you have already performed a hard reset, then the only other thing that I can think of that you could try would be to download the latest software from the Lowrance website, place the extracted files onto an SD card, place the card into the HDS unit and then power-cycle the unit. If the units boot ROM is still functional then this may allow it to perform a software update which should correct any software corruption issue the unit may have. Other than that I believe having the unit replaced is your only other option.
