I Love my new touch unit learn something new every trip. only 1 thing I would change, the brightness level. wish it would reset to a daylight setting at power up, I like to never got the brightness level turned up after a night trip. Yep, I made that mistake once and cussed my graph for an hour for breaking. Lol I finally put a towel over it because it kept beeping, boy did I feel stupid.

I moved the ducer down on the very bottom of the transom by the drain and water intakes, still no high speed readings, but that's OK, I'll just slow down when I need to see water depth.
Now another question........... I got a Navionics Premium South s6 map card with my Hummingbird, but it won't go in my Lowranve Elite 7 HDI. What kind of map card do I need for my Low HDI Elite 7 ???????

The elite series take the Micro SD card. Did you purchase the Micro SD? If so the micro card is inside the larger card. It slides into the bottom of the larger card. Just pull it out and put it in the elite slot and your good to go.

Now if I could just get my transducer to read while on plane at 40mph I would be oh so thankful.

Looking at Lowrance Elite 5 HDI GPS plotter and fishfinder. Gander Mtn has one with something called CHIRP what is this? CHIRP SystemsSonar reaches a whole new level. CHIRP is the new sonar technology recently released to consumers by marine electronics gurus Garmin and Simrad. Its complete name is compressed high-intensity radar pulse, and while the technology has been around some decades in military and commercial applications, these two players are the first to bring boaters the ultimate coolness of sonar clarity. CHIRP makes reading sonar signals on a chart plotter amazingly simple by using a technology that is really not so simple. Essentially, CHIRP replaces a single-frequency ping with a pulse that crosses from low to high frequencies. Think of the chirp a bird makes. It starts on a high or low note and ends on the opposite end of the frequency scale to make a pleasing noise. It is essentially a myriad of pings fired in a single burst. Thanks to the computing capabilities within the black box, these new sonars separate these frequencies, measure their distinctive returns, weigh the timing of the returns and their volume or amplitude and use the information to plot a high-resolution image of the bottom and targets in between. Ok, thats a mouthful, but their benefits were easy to define in our recent tests. Its like the difference between watching standard-resolution television on a circa-1980 TV and watching high-definition TV on a 50-inch 1080p screen. Remarkable. -We saw that target resolution was consistently detailed from shallow to very deep water and easily maintained a solid bottom return at depths of 1,000 feet. A trademark advantage to CHIRP is its ability to plot depths to 10,000 feet. What Is CHIRP?The first consumer sonars came from Lowrance, more than 50 years ago. These sonars transmitted a ping that could be heard by the human ear as a click. They measured the time it took the ping echo to return to the transducer and measured its volume, called amplitude, to determine the target depth. It took a long ping to penetrate water to the target. The longer the ping, the more targets blended together. For 5o years, sonar-interpreting capabilities improved with software and LCD screens, but the single-frequency ping remained as its weak link. A CHIRP signal crosses from high to low frequencies in an elongated pulse and penetrates the water better. Next, sophisticated black box software distinguishes the returns of varying frequencies, their timing and volume in a complex but instantaneous calculation that allows the device to plot a much-higher-resolution image of targets on the screen instead of one faceless blob. I believe moving forward into 2015 all Lowrance will have Chirp....Gen3

599.99 at Gander with basemaps. Is it worth its 100.00 extra cost over the Academy unit with out it? Do you have these SUAF, is so what is your price?
Put the plug in.

bottom line, does this technology really help the "inland" fisherman"? Working with depths less than 100 ft?
Sacred heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death. Amen For those who believe, no explanation is necessary....for those who don't, no explanation is possible For the sake of his sorrowful Passion, have Mercy on us and the whole world

So when is Lowrance going to include SI on something like the Elite 5? Elite series is DI only. HDS is side image which is offered in the 5" display already. Maybe with Gen3 coming out they will offer a 5" wide display version....Like humminbird has done on the Helix 5...

I have a Lowrance curiosity question. If I have a Gen 1 HDS 5 (I am not the original owner, but the barcode/sticker is still on the unit), and it crapped out on me, will Lowrance give me some sort of credit towards a new graph for sending it in?

My guess is it would depend if the graph was ever registered for warranty or not.
