I'm all for trying new stuff but this reel.. Worst Ever, I haven't owned such a horrible reel. After 1 outing, it's locked up, it wasn't dunked, it wasn't dropped, just a little sea spray and that was all she wrote.

I can say this for sure, it's Saltwater Worthiness is ZERO.

Thankfully, I got the warranty so I plan to return this POS to Bass Pro next week and exchange it for the Good Ol' Sahara, which is what I should have bought in the first place.

Thanks for sharing--would be useful if you posted brand/model info etc. If it's been within 30 days you should be able to get refund without warranty--you probably already know that though.

+1 on Penn, but you can even do well with any affordable Shimano, or Daiwa reel too for that matter.

Shimano Sahara is that reel id go with Reps.. I like Penn especially the old SS Spinners but.. they feel clunky (The Battle and Fierce) IMO..

Now if you can find a Shimano Stradic 2500 on Ebay then I would do that then the Sahara..

** Stay away from Daiwa, their salt worthiness on spinners in the medium class is horrid **

Side Note - All my freshwater baitcasters are Daiwa but all my baitcasters for the salt are old school Shimano 101B's...

Check out your local pawn shops... I picked up a used Penn battle 2500 and a brand new Penn fierce 7000 for $35 bucks!

I am a eBay and Craigslist slut have quite the collection of reels. All are well cared for get cleaned and lubed every trip and some live long and some don't. The best so far are Okuma stradics and it's not even close.

Penn Fierce 3000 is a solid light/medium reel! I have it setup with 17lb. braided and can zing a super spook jr. 20-30 yards with no problem!
