Myself,Fred "Rionator"and Manuel fished Lake Dunlap this morning and the "TROPHY FISH" bite was non stop! We started the day with a quick breakfast at the McDonalds just down the road from the boat ramp. We had lines in the water by 7:30 a.m. First spot we fished we nailed a 10 inch plus Redear along with a bunch of bass and a mess of Redear and Redbreast in the 8 to 9 inch range. We then hit a second spot and nailed 20 Trophy Redear in the 10 to 12 inch range. Manuel also caught a Trophy Rio that was 11 inches even. The third and final spot we fished it was non stop "TROPHY ACTION" for two solid hours. We caught 30 Trophy fish both Redear and Bluegill. We had five Bluegill over 10" with the longest going 10.75" We had twenty Redear over 10" with the longest going 12.75" A bunch in the 11"range. Rounding out the catch were numerous Bass between 12 and 17 inches, some super Redbreast in the 8 to 10 inch range (Had five Redbreast going over 10"),and a bunch of fat Bluegill in 8 to 9 inch range. We caught about 100 fish total with only a very few under 6 inches. We had 52 Trophy Size fish. Fish were caught in 10 to 17 feet of water holding next to brush piles and drop offs. Fish were caught using both drop shot and bottom techniques. Worms was the bait of choice. All fish were released to fight again. This latest cold snap really has the Sunfish very active and the BIG ONES are really aggressive and biting well. The water was stained and 70 degrees. A day of fishing like this does not come around that often. We finished at 1:30 p.m. After a day on the water we had a quick snack at the one and only New Braunfels Jack In The Box. Catching a bunch of "TROPHY FISH" with good friends. It just don't get any better.

We never did get to fish Lake Austin this year, but with what you have right there in your back yard, there's not much need to drive 80 miles to go fishing.. Great day..

My new boat should be here in about 4 weeks and we really need to break it in with some fish slime..

Thanks Bob,Jamie,and "Fishwfly" for the replies. Bob: This cooler weather defiantly has the bigger fish active. Fall and winter time are good times to catch the big Redear. Jamie: The fish are starting to move to deeper water and fall patterns are setting in. Once winter sets in the bite will slow down for the Sunfish.

Those kind of days only come around every once in awhile Chuck but,when they do its a very awesome feeling.Way to go.......

Hav'nt checked in here at the bluegill/sunfish section in a while. The last time I visited a few months ago Chuck I thought you had peaked. Smashing records and doing things with a fishing pole that ain't never been done before.I really didn't think it could get any better. Boy was I wrong, you never ceased to amaze us. The bar has been raised yet again!
