According to what I have read this morning this is a tough stretch of the river on a good day. Lots of log jams and overhanging trees. Unknown on PFD but it was said that he kayaked this area a lot so I would think he would have been wearing his PFD. The storm that popped up Sunday might have caught him off guard.
Praying for his family and friends.

Praying for his family and friends. Being EXTREMELY familiar with this stretch of the river I can tell you that info is incorrect. A good day its a super easy stretch with the only problems being shallow water portage (this is assuming he launched below the spillway and headed east, the stretch above the spillway to west is a SUPER EASY paddle) My guess is he launched below maybe before a rain and then had a storm blow through that caught him off guard.If he launched while the water was already flowing hard AFTER a rain then unfortuantely he made a poor descision that day and in fact im not sure how he could have even launched if the water was already high and flowing. When it rains hard this section catches ALOT of run off and can get hairy in a hurry. It is sad and unfortunate what happened to him. Prayers go out to his family!

ALWAYS WEAR YOUR LIFE VEST. If you forgot it, dont get on the water! For children it is the law. For us its for saftey. No one posting in this section has ever been lost. If U find yourself in a rising river, get out & get to high ground ASAP! Your gear can b replaced. Just ask BRod  With tears in my eyes i think about the family of this young man.

I heard that as well, but can't remember where I heard it, but I am positive that it was not on Fox, not a fan. I probably heard it on NPR or WFAA. Always wear a PFD and it is not a bad idea to take a basic kayak class, even viewing a few videos on Youtube about kayaking safety is better than just jumping on a kayak and heading out on the water.

viewing a few videos on Youtube about kayaking safety is better than just jumping on a kayak and heading out on the water. even seasoned yakanglers can get into trouble every now n then
