How far away should you stay from other fishermen fishing? I try to stay away 2 full long cast away from others and not cast towards them. What about you?

Just use common sense. If it feels like your too close you probably are. Just IMO. Two cast sounds fine in most situations.

Ok, all jokes aside. 25 yards in considered the tournament standard, but even that close is reason to receive a dirth look. Me personally, i dont care how close you get as long as you dont care dodging my one ounce carolina rig!

If the lake isn't packed, and a boat is where I want to fish, I just move on to another area. I try not to crowd anyone. As far as I go, I don't mind if a boat moves in as long as he doesn't try cutting me or forcing me off the spot. If I am on some fish and someone comes by, I'll usually invite them to join in. It usually comes back as getting information on other spots that they have found that have been hot lately.

If you ask if fishing close is ok and they are fine with it rub rails if you want to. Otherwise I'd keep plenty of distance and make sure you don't impede where they intend to go.

This past weekend at Rayburn we had three of us that wanted on the same spot. We got there first on Saturday but that didn't keep a couple of boats from getting right up on us at casting all around us. It got uncomfortable a few times.

I can't imagine rolling up on someone and casting around their boat. It's too close. Since we were both there the day before I guess they felt they had the right.

Two long casts sounds like a good rule to me.

depends. I am much more defensive when I am on the shore or fishing around people bank fishing personally, they can't move. Boats can. Lots of spots with fish, big lakes, people shouldn't cramp one another imo.

That said, I like to work through spots, so if I see someone parked somewhere along a route I like to run, I will just work the same route and skip over the area 200yd or so to either side of them probably, say an awkward hi as I pass by... worst case scenario I'm going to pass y you on either side and catch some fish and you'll move when I finish and take the spot I just left... it is usually the boats sitting still that have problems with people on "their spots". I just rarely fun fish sitting still so it's less a problem... haven't ever had anyone follow me very closely as one might while parked on a spot and they got up on you. I also want everyone to catch fish so if I'm on them I'm happy to share. Best case scenario I don't let my ego get in the way, share a spot with a stranger, they pull up using something totally different then me and pull up a much nicer fish from a spot I've had producing keepers but nothing massive from. Hell, that's part of why I like fishing buddies who don't fish like me. It's a heck of a lot easier for someone else to come produce with something they are confident in and I'm not right in front of me, and me to go man, I gotta try that! than for me to just pick it up and use something new or different when what I know and enjoy is working great.

All in all, I don't think someone else fishing right with me has any negative effect on my fishing and offers a lot of positives. Unless it's a tournament, I just don't care. Happy to fish around anyone as long as we aren't crossing lines.
