Just about all bug repellents have a negative effect on fishing. One suggestion is to apply while wearing Nitrile gloves (the components in most of these products will penetrate through Latex Gloves), removing and discarding the gloves, then use a fishing type of glove to protect your hands from bites.

I use cutter natural. No deet and works great.

Google Sunsect - sunscreen and insect repellant in one. Previously sold exclusively to the military, this stuff flat out works. It has DEET in it.

I use a product called "buzz-away". it's an all natural repellent, using high concentrations of Citronella, but no DEET.
works awesome, but the smell takes some getting used to.
