1/0 Gamakatsu Splitshot/Drop shot hook, 4.5" Aaron's Magic Roboworm, 8lb flouro, HUNDREDS of 1/4 or less drop shot weights(you're going to lose a lot of them) and a fairy wand and you should be set. Just remember with a drop shot less is more. Light line, small hooks, and small baits. Also, don't move it too much! Just let it sit there for a bit and slowly drag it back to the boat. Only shake it to bounce it over any kind of cover it may get hung up in. Good luck! very good advice!!! one thing that gets over looked is to make sure the hook is facing the right direction...."open end UP"...I see people all the time with it in the wrong direction which causes you to lose the "action" the bait gives....one thing I like to do is use 10# mono for my main line...but I like to tie on 4# spider wire for the weight below...this truly makes the bait look like it's suspending....works like a charm!! Good luck.

I find it insane that you don't use drop shot. It is honestly one of the most effective methods I have ever used, and I constantly do it with a variety of baits. In japan, drop shot is the gold standard by which the effectiveness of other techniques are measured. Alot of texas fisherman don't use finesse techniques so the bass here are pretty vulnerable to them. I used to destroy dunlap with finesse split shot and drop shot rigs when noone could catch anything. Sometimes I even break out the 6 pound line.
I have pretty much caught fish with every bass lure since I live on a 1 acre farm pond, but I don't throw spinner baits or buzz baits anywhere but home. I'd just rather use a crank as a search bait under almost any circumstance.

Jig & Pig. Never could catch a fish on one. Even tried once by taking nothing but a jig and still didn't get bit. I have gotten bit a couple of times fishing a jig, and once with the bale open oops! Fished with some guys and that was their confidence lure and they won plenty of club tournaments pitching a jig with heavy action rods, or as he called them "Broomstick". Just learned the drop shot last spring and it works. Can use that setup anytime. Also A-rig never threw, but looks like a lot of work and $$! Same with 10XD, gotta have some arms to throw those things all day.
Best weather on the planet!

The bait I have the hardest making myself throw is the swimbait. When I was young I caught tons of fish on them trolling. For some reason I just lose interest when it comes to throwing a swimbait.

Would most of you agree that a drop shot rig is not the best choice on a lake with stained water?

I just started Drop shotting about a year ago. I love learning new techniques. it started really slow for me but it has really started picking up. If fact, I catch myself going to it all the time because my confidence has grown. Its funny how many fish you catch when you are confident in the technique.
My buddy watched me catch 9 in a row the other day. He said he was going right to Academy to buy a rod and reel. He's a believer. It was one of those days were you could see them on the graph and actually say.....There is a fish.......got him! been bass fishing a long time and never felt so accomplished.
Good luck....p.s. those Robo worms work!

Myself (like everyone else on tis topic) thinks some of these answers are crazy! It's hard to beleive we don't have any interest in trying one technique that works so well for so many others. But that's how it goes, you stay in your comfort zone and do what you have confidence in. I know I'm going to start picking up the drop shot and play around with it. That's why I wanted to start this topic, so hopefully we can all learn a little from each other.

My least favorite bait to throw is a wacky rigged trick worm and only because I just don't get many bites on it. I know it works and I have caught fish on it but other techniques work better for me. Now a wacky rigged Senko type bait is another story. I like throwing that. I have also caught a lot of fish on a drop shot, A-rig, jig, buzz bait, C-rig, Tx. rig, crank baits. Those techniques work well for me also. I have never gotten bit on a chatter bait but I still throw it. Someday I will get bit on it im sure.
